About Me

CURRENT MISSION

clarifying my career goals, getting healthier and creating more art!

ABOUT ME

i love meeting new people and, in that vein, am friendly, fun and can light a fire in any conversation. people are interesting and i like to learn and share and laugh together. i'm easygoing and a bit of a procrastinator. i'm an avid multi-tasker. i'm artsy and an intellectual. i'm spontaneous.

PHILOSOPHY

Love it when websites challenge me to summarize my ethos. my character is very determined and driven, but i feel like i still need to find my passion. i beleive that once i merge my determination with a fundamental passion and purpose, i will be a force. right now, i'm a bit scattered, with lots of interests. but i'm okay with that, for now. i'm living life as a journey, and like driving with a compass, not a map.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i'm new! show me some love!

the philosophy of CS is in my soul, even though i'm new. i have a history of taking giant leaps into random people's homes as a guest so i could afford a trip to atlanta..or meeting a new person in a bar and leaving having met all their friends and gotten to know them to the point where i could participate in their gossip. i've moved a lot so i'm used to greasing the wheels of new conversations and getting off on the right foot. i've opened my home to friend's friends while they were traveling and act as a philly tour guide on a semi-regular basis.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Atlanta-what a wonderful host! he gave me a set of his apt. keys and left me a 6-pack in the fridge and was very kind (i don't expect that by any means, was just a nice surprise!).

I also hosted a friend of a friend who was traveling from new orleans. she had lived her whole life in the ninth ward and lost everything, including neighbors and had no way to connect with friends post hurricane katrina. it was really intense. i surveyed my friends asking, 'what the hell do i do to make her feel welcomed?' i got food, and clothes, etc. but the best recommendation was the beer. we sat on my apartment steps, sipping bear and talked about her survivor's guilt and her sadness. but she also told me her best memories and we had some laughter sprinkled in. it was a touching night, and i'll never forget it.

Interests

traveling (surprise!), hiking, yoga, going to bars, painting, languages, Art-ing, organizing, media production (audio and video), web design, astrology, religion and philosophy, attending performances, bunnies (i have a pet rabbit), writing poetry, blurring boundaries, testing limits, exploring.

Music, Movies, and Books

these sorts of lists exhaust. my friends give me mixed cd's as gifts because my music collection is pitiful. i'm into sci-fi, documentaries, and dramas.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I paraglided in Switzerland. I'm afraid of heights, so it was terrifying and thrilling. The view was stunning and I have a photo of myself in the air, looking absolutely blissed out.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm kind of falling in love with CS reading this: "This is the beginnings of the future CouchSurfing University, a school where everyone's a student and everyone's a teacher. Surfing isn't just about a place to sleep. It's about exchange. From esoteric knowledge to practical skills, you have special knowledge that others will benefit from knowing." It's like I just found home!

Skills..I'm really good at editing resumes. I was a career counselor in the past. I give good massages. I consider going to school to be a masseuse every 6 months. I have a lot of random knowledge on topics related to psychology, politics, radio production, labor organizing, maternal child health, communications/public relations work, and yoga. I really want to learn Spanish and American Sign Language. My favorite way to experience a new place is trying to have an ordinary day there. Finding the dive bar and chatting with the locals.
