ABOUT ME

I started traveling in 2006 when I went to study abroad in Oviedo, Spain and I've been hooked ever since. Traveled a bunch in Europe during that time and learned so much about the world (and wrote a few cool songs too).I went back to teach English as a volunteer in the Czech Republic in 2007 and found I loved it and knew it was what I could do after university. After finishing my degree in Oregon, I took a job in Seoul, South Korea teaching English. About 2 years and 2 jobs later, I'm on my way back to Spain to test the waters there (After a Yoga teacher's training in India that is). I love playing my guitar, reading anything that gives me a new perspective, learning languages, writing songs, being outdoors (Camping, rock climbing, surfing) and meeting new people.

And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'd love to host couch surfers at some time in the future, but right now I'm in between homes. That actually makes it hard for me to get verified for the time being because I don't really have an address, so please know I will as soon as I'm settled! I am a touring musician who just loves to meet and hear stories from locals in all the places I gig!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None so far although a few good friends of mine in Portland host couch surfers regularly and they love it! They actually got me turned on to the idea.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

The most amazing thing I've seen traveling are the strong people I've met. The first thing that came to mind when pondering this question was a 16 year old Cambodian girl who I randomly met at the orphanage where she lived in Phnom Phen. She seemed nearly 30 with a peace and grace about her far beyond her years. We actually met because I needed to use the toilet and she offered me her tissues :) After that, we started talking. Just chit-chatting at first, but slowly, her story started unfolding. She lived her whole life until age 14 in a garbage heap. Her mother died of AIDS and she had no idea who her father was. She did have a grandmother figure who lived at the dump as well but for the most part, she was completely on her own, fending for herself. At 14, a man came to the dump and told her she could come live at the children's home he started for children just like her. He showed her pictures and told her about the other children there, but she said no, over and over again. She was scared of the change and didn't know anything other than what her life had been. Finally, she said she would try living there, but only try, she might leave if she didn't like it. Two years later, she learned to write and read Khmer, she spoke,read and wrote fluent English AND she spoke, read and wrote fluent Japanese! When I met her she had just gotten back from 3 months in Japan and she was soon set to go back for a few years of study. Her strength and grace made a lasting impact on me and I will never forget her.
