ABOUT ME

I did most of my traveling in the 80s and 90s and would have loved to surf couches if it had existed. I travelled moderately with my family in the past 16 years and am looking forward to much more in the future. I am interested in sustainable development, transportation, environment, and community. I enjoy vegetable gardening, cycling, hiking, x-country skiing and influencing social change.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I traveled to Chicago and Hamilton with my not-for-profit and was able to enrich my stay by spending time with some wonderful couchsurfers who showed me around and gave me a local view of their cities. I've also hosted travelers who have passing through Calgary.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I traveled to Chicago for four days on business, stayed in a hotel but was lucky to meet some wonderful couchsurfers who showed me around their beautiful city during the day and accompanied me to see a show at Second City.
I have hosted some delightful couchsurfers who needed a bed in Calgary either because they were making their way across Canada or where here for work and needed a temporary place before finding more permanent accomodations.

Interests

Camping, sustainability, smart urban design, gardening, starting a back yard bee hive, food security, my children, cycling, hiking, the Canadian Foothills and Rocky Mountains. I also have an interest and work experience in computer software and database technology.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hang gliding, flying with hawks and butterflies in a thermal,
Kept bees in Manitoba and now have two hives in my backyard.
Saw the great barrier reef in Australia,
Climbed peek in the Canadian Rockies,
Single track mountain biking in the Alberta foothills
Camped on the beach in Negril, Jamaica
Hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon
Launched and hosted the Canadian Commuter Challenge since 1999

I enjoy meeting and learning from people who care about healthy living and wellness, gardening, slow cooking, raising healthy balanced children and people who like to be philosophical about designing better communities.
