About Me

READ FIRST: As someone who frequently requests couches for one night, I have nothing against people passing through for a day on their travels. However, I am a bit tired of getting requests from people who seem to forget that Couchsurfing is for travelers who want to share experiences with other travelers.
Practically, what this means is that if you come to catch a plane, if Limoges is a stopover on the way to somewhere more exotic, or if you are a pilgrim on the Camino de Santiago... Send me a message! If you're just coming to Limoges for an interview and are arriving in the evening and leaving the next morning... Maybe find another host.

To laugh and dance and see the world. (Rire, danser, voir le monde.)

We started this account as a mother (Leigh Ann) and daughter (Shelby) who are best friends and love to travel together. We got started CouchSurfing when we planned our first "big" trip to Europe in 2011. Currently, Shelby uses the account to surf and to host.

We are both very open-minded, easy-going, adventurous souls. Although we have specific things we want to do and see while we are traveling, we mostly just want to "breath it all in" - so we will certainly welcome any and all information and advice from our hosts.

What a difficult question! I do my best to follow my mother's example and be honest, generous, kind, and sincere. Let's call it a work in progress.

Some well-used phrases:
- Normal is boring.
- I'd rather be interesting than cool any day.
- You can laugh about it or you can cry about it; we've already cried about it, so we might as well laugh about it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We were mother-daughter CouchSurfing buddies for a month in 2011 and will do it again in the future! Now, I (Shelby) host and occasionally surf, and am getting involved in revitalising the Limoges CS group!

Our first big adventure together and first experience with CS was a month-long trip to Italy, France, and England. While it was stressful at times not to know what we were doing at any given moment (and, one time, not knowing where we would sleep that night), we were overwhelmed by the generosity we were shown. Our CS hosts treated us like members of their families, and we cannot thank them enough. In a way, our time spent surfing renewed our faith in humanity. Now we want to do what we can to repay that kindness by becoming hosts ourselves.

TRAVEL, sewing, gardening, laughing, politics, reading, organizing things obsessively/color coding, thinking, word games, going out of my comfort zone, learning foreign languages (I speak French!), dancing (especially salsa and swing)

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Harry Potter. Plus anything that passes under my nose.

Movies: I LOVE L'Auberge Espagnole, and I have a guilty pleasure for terrible chick flicks.

Music: Lots of people say they listen to "all kinds of music" but they don't mean it. I actually do listen to everything from chill acoustic music to rap, bagpipes to jazz, Edith Piaf to trashy hip hop. Except heavy metal, because I don't really see how it's music.

I have picked figs by headlight in Italy, danced myself to happiness in Seattle, jumped in to the Mediterranean at the calanques in Marseille, hiked Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, and been surrounded by people and friends I never could have imagined I would meet. I have appreciated moments where I have seen, heard, smelled, tasted, felt, and LIVED with every fiber of my being.

I'm also learning a third language, so that's pretty cool.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: English and French, how to cook a few traditional dishes from the American South, how to say "I'm drunk" in 8 languages (and counting!)

Learn: how to say "I'm drunk" in a language I don't already know, anything with languages

Partager: some pretty interesting travel stories and trans-Atlantic cultural observations
