About Me

Outgoing, friendly, genuine, nerdy, kind. I have incurable wanderlust and an insatiable appetite for exploration.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think staying with locals or in hostels is the best way to get an authentic experience when you travel. I'd love to show people around Oxford, and I'd also love to see as much of the rest of the world as possible.

Interests

My research interests are about conservation, biodiversity, and emergent technology. I like spending time outside or in museums, and I dabble in urban exploration. I also enjoy painting, writing, and baking.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read a lot of academic articles and nonfiction both for work and pleasure, but I confess I love a well-written technothriller (a la Crichton) when I'm traveling. I love a good epic; I'm a huge fan of ASOIAF, and yes I've read the Dunk & Egg novellas. I'm kind of a nerd for vintage sci-fi (Vonnegut, Clarke, Dick, Heinlein, Card, etc.) Also a big fan of hilarious writers like Adams, Wilde, and Wodehouse.

As far as music goes, I like a lot of vintage rock and folk, 90's pop-rock that I should probably be embarrassed about, and indie stuff. I also really like good soundtracks, and have been known to work while listening to John Williams.

My favorite movies are usually comedies, thrillers, or epics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spending a month by myself in Thailand doing humanitarian aid and wildlife conservation was probably one of my major life highlights so far...

Teach, Learn, Share

"Many people need desperately to receive this message: 'I feel and think much as you do, care about many of the things you care about, although most people do not care about them. You are not alone.'"
-- Kurt Vonnegut
