Overview
About Me
I live with my domestic partner, Thomas (35), and our Alaskan husky, Kaia (13). This profile is mine, but it is also helpful to know Thomas's first language is French, and he is also conversational in Italian and Spanish.
We are travelers and adventurers, and recently relocated to Stanley, Falkland Islands from Fairbanks, Alaska. Part of what we love about traveling is meeting new people and sharing experiences. We hope to create that experience in situ by hosting other travelers.
Please note we prefer not to host longer than three days, while flights from Chile only come once a week. (So we are not likely to host you for your entire stay in Stanley, and you will need to make other arrangements... guest houses, hotels, and visiting other islands are all options). Longer than three days is just too long for us, with the rare exception. Thanks for understanding!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My couch has been a regular crashing spot for field partners on their way in from remote field camps, before they leave Alaska. Additionally, close friends in Alaska were regular CouchSurfer hosts, and I shared bonfires with several of their guests and enjoyed meeting travelers from all over the world. Thomas and I have always had an eclectic group of international friends, and we enjoy making people feel at home.
Interests
I've made biology and conservation into my life's career (and am a bird biologist), but I have a variety of other topics that pique my interest... I bike, hike, kayak, backpack. Music, art, literature, politics, travel, international cuisine, gardening/small farms, knitting... Above all, I enjoy getting outside with my dog daily.
Thomas is a fisheries biologist in Stanley. Evenings might find him playing his guitar or ukulele, nice summer days might find him snorkeling in the kelp beds around Stanley. Thomas is trying to learn kite surfing and also is certified in scuba, and he is a surfer.
We both enjoy relaxing with good food, good drink, and good conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books
I have diverse musical tastes. Anything from classical to bluegrass to reggae to punk rock. I probably have something in my collection for everyone, and I always enjoy learning about new-to-me artists.
I'm try to alternate fiction with non-fiction and enjoy reading biographies about people I respect or who've played important roles in my life (Wangari Maathai, Nelson Mandela, Thoreau's Walden) and travel/science stories (A Primate's Memoir, Three Cups of Tea). But my all-time favorite books are usually literature: Poisonwood Bible, Love in the Time of Cholera, Ordinary Wolves, Le Petit Prince, Still-Life with Woodpecker, All the Light We Cannot See, Homegoing.
Thomas and I read online newspapers daily and enjoy checking in to select online news sources to keep up with world events. In the States, we are NPR fans, and that is what you would usually find on our radio.
We do not own a television but do enjoy movies in the evenings, here and there.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We traveled to Haiti in 2016 and enjoyed Kanaval in Jacmel!
Teach, Learn, Share
We would love to learn about your traditional cuisine, your favorite music, or just enjoy idle conversation around our dinner table.
What I Can Share with Hosts
We are happy to cook a meal for you, or be given a task in your garden (or help with other yard work). We are neat and tidy and will clean up after ourselves. We are easy to talk to, so we can also just share conversation!
