About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To find ways to live happily in this world that will bring a smile to those all around me :-)

ABOUT ME

Well... I was born in Bristol where I grew up and cultivated a love for the City and wonderful people around me. It's vibrant, diverse and alive with creativity and passion for social progression which I'm grateful to have been around. I worked for the corporate sector for several years before blowing it off and travelling around SE Asia to remember why I love life (phew!). I returned with a new goal to work for more worthwhile causes and so began working for a small charity before starting University to study Philosophy and Sociology - guided by a desire and curiosity to understand more about the world around me! Once there, I threw myself into the environmental movement where I met wonderfully free people and attempted to break into a power station and occupied the university halls amongst other crazy adventures. Now I am doing a one year internship working for an international think tank type place in Salzburg, Austria, where I continue my work and passion in sustainability in Higher Education and occasionally break free to go on various cycling/ hiking adventures.

PHILOSOPHY

These are good questions... My personal philosphy is always growing and being refined.. it's organic and alive with all the influences around me that feed into who I am. I want to find ways to simply be in the moment, to trust that there is a guiding force and that all is as it is meant to be. There is an emotional and bodily intelligence that is far greater than the our mind would have us believe and that we must develop and balance all of these different types of intelligence if we are to be truly at peace with ourselves and the world around us.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm very new to all of this at the mo... but I'm really hoping to find some nice people who will host me as I try to make a couple of journeys overland to the UK (trying to keep the carbon footprint low!). It will help break up the journey with the added benefit of meeeting new people and places! I am also looknig to go to a conference in Sustainability in Higher Education and would love to stay with a nice host rather than go to a hotel. I can't offically offer a place to stay at the mo because I live where I work and there are strict rules but when I move back home I will be very keen to host people in Bristol - I have a big passion for the place!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far the only couchsurfing I have done has been with friends in Bristol, Weston and Cardiff - it was a great experience and they have become much closer friends because of it!

Interests

Gosh, erm... sustainability is high up there, environmental movement (any progressive movement for that matter!) philosophy, sociology, learning something that widens the perspective, psychology (would love to learn more about Jung), camping, going to festivals, free parties, the psy trance scene in general, yoga, cycling, running, hiking, travelling, hula hooping, poi, politics, self developement, meditation, comedy (Bill Hicks, Bill Bailey) reading, stroking cats, cooking (vegan food!), finding ways to live happy and free!

Music, Movies, and Books

At the moment...
Books - Power of Now (Eckhart Tolle), Prosperity without growth (Tim Jackson) and Blessed Unrest (Paul Hawken).
Music - Eva Cassidy, Moby, Phillip Glass and Ella Fitzgerald
Movies - North Country, Right Country feeling wronged, the Climate Wars and Amelie (my fave!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went on a 6 week cycle tour around East Anglia in the UK with 15 wonderful peeps, living a low impact lifestyle, carrying all our kit with us, performing a play as well as running workshops in various sustianability issues. It was great to live outdoors for 6 weeks, learn so many new skills and see the bootiful countryside... sigh..

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach... hula hooping, poi, vegan cooking, some yoga, how to do grassroots campaigning and IT (excel, word, access and powerpoint), basic bike repair work...
