About Me

I’m a queer foodie who works in the arts and local LGBT scene. I’m friendly (but introverted!) and I like learning about cultures. I’m not big on shopping, unless it’s for books and zines. I am very adventurous with food 😄

I used to do tours around the city, and I’ve hosted many, many people (I tend to host long term surfers — the record is someone who stayed over a year). I’ve since gained more housemates so hosting long term stays isn’t an option anymore and I’m back on CS to see if anyone wants a couch.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've written travel guides on a few places around Malaysia for several publications. If it's anything about KL, I'll be happy to supply information.

I’d also like to provide a safe space for queer people who are travelling through Malaysia.

Interests

I have a broad range of interests, and they’re mostly within the creative and cultural industry.

I am a big fan of the arts, I like theatre, music, musicals dance, exhibitions, performance arts and such — I lean towards contemporary and experimental artworks, but i generally appreciate a wide range. I am an arts writer, editor, curator and also social media manager. I also have a background as a journalist and art director, and in another life was knee-deep in startup culture.

I love food and have very few diet restrictions (besides sugars), so if you can recommend good food in your hood, I’d love to hear it!

I like meeting open-minded and inclusive people. If there is a local queer scene that isn’t about clubbing, I’d like to see what’s up 😊. I’m also quite active in some matters of civil disobedience.

If you’re visiting me, and you like street art, I used to research street art (and did a tour!) so I could bring you to some spots to see them in KL.

I love animals. Cats, dogs, birds, hamsters — if you have pets I hope they’re friendly because I’d love to meet them 😄

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read — some authors I enjoy: Mary Roach, Zen Cho, Kundera, Rushdie, Saramago. Trying my best to read more local works as well. I am currently working on a literary festival as one of its curators.

I can recommend local books, music, films and such if you’re interested in Malaysian culture. I have a decent library of local publications at home too that you can go through :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I’ve founded two arts festivals: one an ASEAN puppetry exchange, and another was a site-specific festival on history, food and art, with an emphasis on mapmaking and local knowledge

Teach, Learn, Share

Some friendly advice: If you have a copy of Lonely Planet's guide to Southeast Asia — stop using that book, or combine it with other sources. It contains badly researched travel information, and you'll be missing out on what the region has to offer. Get any other brand of travel guides, use the internet, anything.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, England, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Netherlands, Scotland, Singapore, Thailand
