About Me
CURRENT MISSION
'How dull it is to pause, to make an end, To rust unburnished, not to shine in use! As though to breath were life.'
ABOUT ME
Looking like a lovechild of Sam Gamgee and Gimli the Dwarf, I am looking forward to see a bit of world after four years of study. I love to read, and write articles for a website, as well as some other amateur writing. In my free time I practice Aikido, which I would consider to be my first love, and teach it to children from 5 to 12.
PHILOSOPHY
Well, what can I say? I've read a lot so it can sometimes be a struggle to separate my own philosophy from the philosophies of others. But I generally think that we worry too much about being one thing or the other, and forget to be. So I suppose if I had to define my philosophy of life into one sentence it would be 'try not to worry about it'.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I recently couchsurfed in Portland which was a great experience, and hope to be meeting up with many other people as I travel across Europe. When I get back to England I can't wait to repay the favour and show others around my home.
Interests
As I said above I consider my first love to be Aikido, and am approaching my 2nd Dan black belt grading when I get back from travelling (I have a lot of training to catch up on!) But I'm also interested in nerdy tv shows and books of all kinds, and especially nerdy conversations about all of the above.
All of my other interests are on a completely amateur level, I am fascinated by science when I'm able to understand what I hear, and love to meet people who can explain it to me. I also am fascinated by art and love to visit galleries, again, I love to meet people who can explain it to me.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'll gladly read anything, and was lucky enough to study English Literature at University where I was introduced to many of the classics. I also grew up on fantasy. Among my favourite books are To Kill a Mockingbird, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Slaughterhouse 5, Siddhartha, Brave New World, Sense and Sensibility, The Dark Tower, Room at the Top, The Art of Peace, 1984, The Lies of Locke Lamora and The Power of Now.
I often struggle with films, as I find it difficult to sit still for too long, and generally I prefer watching comedies such as Dogma, Dodgeball and Ghostbusters. However, I'd say my favourite film of all time would be (predictably) Shawshank Redemption.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Driving across Utah and seeing the national parks, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon and Zion Canyon was one of the most memorable experiences my life, and I'll never forget it.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can fix almost anything with masking tape, if you need anything fixed ask me how! (Offer does not include electrical goods, plumbing or broken hearts)
