About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live Life Smiling :)

ABOUT ME

Upbeat and somewhat idealistic person with an associative and free mind, large intellectual curiosity and maaaaany different interests.

I have a strong own opinion, but with a considerable dose of self-mockery and am at times extremely self-critical. I can be très diplomatique, but on certain trivial things, like names of colors or medieval spelling (in Dutch) I can be absolutely categorical. I think in images and remember details, always hum without even noticing it myself, I can't whistle, don't like soft drinks except tonic or rivella, read four books at the same time (one for every moment of the day), can't stand the sound of a ballpoint scratching the paper, love to go roaming around bazaars or yard sales looking for old postcards and record albums, watch some movies over and over again, enjoy surprising people and being surprised in return, laugh at myself when things go really wrong after trying to do too many things simultaneously, always eat the brown M&M's first, have the tendency to switch on all the mechanical toys at the toystore (especially the ones with sound effects), am crazy about the smell of old books, fresh bread, campfire, nail polish and wet grass, but not combined and like to listen to old people and their stories.

I am fascinated by DIY things and ecological and self-sustained living, love green juices, put decorum over elitism and am certainly more fond of cynical optimism than happy denial. I know how to find the North with a watch, how to look at art, how to survive a boring night at a reception and how to camp in nature.

So, in short a bit of a dreamy do-gooder... Maybe.. I do think about a lot of things and like when I can share this with others, but I am more an explorer or 'understander'. Parapenting, canyoning, living in the mountains, volunteering in an orphanage, or just long long walks through forests or cities, that's nice. At home reading books or discussing everything and nothing with friends, drinking a glass of wine or cup of coffee as well.

I philosophically analyze, well, almost everything, but from my easy chair, just to get up from it and play twister in my tiny living room or I Spy on the way to the party with a bunch of friends. I just as much go to large cities with amazingly hip and trendy clubs to dance the night away, gaze at the art and architecture and dine at fancy restaurants, as that I play a game of chess in the middle of nowhere with a person I just met on a hike and whose language I don't speak, sipping cheap wine and eating self cooked pasta from shared ingredients....

PHILOSOPHY

It is not about having the things you want, it is about wanting the things you have!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My idea of participation is sharing. You share your space, your food, your drinks, your time, your energy, your personality... You share a moment in life. There is no better way of learning, growing and sharing it again...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

For a long time I have not been able to host and the traveling I did was mostly for work, but from now on I will be able to welcome people again :)..
