About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Starting this May, I plan to spend the summer traveling around to different urban homesteads, organic farms, communal living homes, and community childcare and gardening programs. My goal is to use the knowledge I gain to start my own urban homestead.

ABOUT ME

My name is Langen, I'm twenty-two and about to graduate from college. It is my goal to start a communal living urban homestead with my good friend (and fellow couch surfer) Alex. We want to use our homestead not only to provide sustainable living for ourselves and our house mates, but to bring up the community that we're a part of. We plan on running a community garden, and sliding scale high quality, educational child care center out of the homestead. When I graduate in May I plan on spending a few months visiting (and hopefully working on) places that are already doing things similar to what we want to accomplish. I want to learn all about sustainable living, community building, and organic farming so that I can bring my knowledge back to St. Louis and put it in action!

I joined couch surfing to try to get in contact with like-minded individuals, who are either already a part of a homestead, commune, organic farm, or community childcare program, or who would be willing to host me on their couch during my travels to these places.

I'm also very willing to host other people who are interested in exploring St. Louis assuming we can get our timing and all that jazz worked out. I live on the southside of St. Louis city in a large house with three roommates and four cats. We're pretty close to a bus stop and both major highways. If you are planning a trip to St. Louis, let me know and we'll talk more.

Also, I'm not sure where to plug this so I'll just stick it in here:

I run a nonprofit group called Mic the People for the People. We host open mic events for different local St. Louis charities. The idea is to provide musicians, poets, and artists with a way to constantly use their craft to raise money for causes that they support. If you're around St. Louis at all, I suggest checking us out! www.myspace.com/micthepeopleforthepeople or check us out on facebook groups under Mic the People for the People

PHILOSOPHY

"If you want to sing out, sing out! And if you want to be free, be free! Cuz there's a million ways to be, you know that there are. You know that there are!" (Cat Stevens)

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am new here, so I haven't participated much yet, but I plan to both travel and host with couchsurfing! I love the idea of creating a way for people to share ideas and explore the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite writer is Kurt Vonnegut (Jr.), my favorite movie is Labyrinth (oh David Bowie!), and I love music too much to pick a favorite band or even genre but right now all the songs getting suck in my head seem to be by Seawolf.
