ABOUT ME

We are four friends leaving August 9th from Grasse, in southern France, to go to Rovaniemi. Our aim is to explore Lapland. We are undertaking an environmental project that is funded by our city council. As concerned environmentalists, we have heard that the Saamis are facing a serious problem in their farming of reindeer because of climate change. We understand that the abnormally mild weather has killed the lichens, which reindeer eat, thereby virtually destroying an entire way of life for the Saamis. We would like to meet with the Saamis to understand the situation first hand and to report on it. We plan on preparing an exhibition of our findings when we return, focusing on the practical consequences of climate change that unfortunately are all too often ignored.

Nordic European culture is not well known in southern Europe. That is why this trip will be a true learning experience for us and will be of interest to people of all ages from children, who are curious about "Santa Claus" country, to adults who are interested in their northern neighbors.
In the first part of the trip, we will travel through all of the Nordic countries. Using the Wwoofing network and couchsurfing web sites, we will meet farmers and other inhabitants of these countries. In this way, we hope to gain a better understanding of the differences between their way of life and ours in southern Europe and the Mediterranean region.
The second part of the trip will be devoted to an exploration of Lapland, meeting the native Saamis, and participating with them in their farming of reindeer. We expect to stay with a French couple, Gilles and Lorraine Vautherot, who have settled in Swedish Lapland and who have graciously agreed to host us for several days.

The third part of our endeavor will be an exhibition of pictures of our travels that we will prepare and present in December at Christmas time at various places in the city of Grasse.

I love all kind of arts : cinema, music.. I am also envolved in the environmental struggle. My favorite hobby is to read : I love litterature and especially german philosophy! And I love cooking, espacially french pastries and vegan food.
