About Me

CURRENT MISSION

First chopsticks, then 'knife and forks'.

ABOUT ME

I grew up in India. There's this very nice community on FB called 'You know you grew up in India in the 90's when...' which is full of pop-culture references of the decade. Going through it makes me a little nostalgic. I'm the guy you see hanging out perennially in a Nostalgia shop- I'd be looking for an Audrey Hepburn poster in the US, a Luis Bunuel DVD in Spain, a Nouvelle Vague film in France and all old Hindi films on my laptop. Since I graduated last year I have travelled a fair bit and have finally landed in New York. I'm looking for work, charming New Yorkers and in all their glorious eccentricities. travelers.

PHILOSOPHY

"When you go to a movie, you see a sequence and if there's real cinematic power, cinematic flair (There are these film makers who you feel are touched by God to make films) and there will be a combination of editing and sound. Usually it'll be like visual images connecting with the music, but when those things work and they really connect (an example could be the final gun fight sequence in 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. That's like one sequence I can't ever imagine doing that way.), it's like you forget to breathe, you're really transported to a different place. Music doesn't quite do that on it's own, novels quite don't do it, a painting doesn't do that. They do it their way but in Cinema, especially if you're in a theater and you're sharing this experience with a bunch of other people, so it's THIS mass thing which is going. it's truly truly thrilling." - Quentin Tarantino on 'The Power of Cinema'

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I do what I can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Met a WIDE variety of people ranging from the distinctly fashionable to the intellectually stimulating/stimulated to the absolute barmy and ridiculous.
Lovely!

Interests

People watching. Eye talking. Woody Allen. Fighting crime. Loneliness. Cuisines. France. Cricket. Younger women. Sitting on the passenger seat in cars. Eavesdropping. Evoking nostalgia. Making comfortable moments awkward. Older Women. Smiling. People reading me 'Howl'. Watching films, discussing films, thinking about making films.

Music, Movies & Books

I can only read a very specific kind of book now- of an introspective nature and with a very strong sense of physical spaces and the emotions they inspire- I like Murakami, Rushdie, Teju Cole.
With films also, my tastes are getting narrower. I can't watch crime capers or noir anymore- contemporary sensible dramas please.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

I think I'm experience insensitive. I'm numbed.
