About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Laura, I'm 22 years old and I just graduated college! I studied in the lovely town of Middelburg, the Netherlands, which I've grown very attached to. I did Liberal Arts & Sciences, majoring in Religion and Music History. This year I'm taking a gap year in which I work two really fun jobs (I cook pasta while talking to customers and bartend in the biggest concert venue of Utrecht) to save up for acting school, which I'm going to audition for later this year. I'm also in a student choir and visit the university library regularly to study stuff that I'm interested in (which is a LOT of things) (though I'm not even in college anymore. What happened to me.) Even further down the road my ambition is to do a master (and maybe PhD) in artistic research, which is an amazing thing which I can talk about for hours.
What I appreciate most about people is their passions. Passion is such a beautiful thing, and I love it when people are either passionate about something, have a lot of passion in their character, or passionately disagree with my opinion on a movie or the meaning of life or something.
Also, I love laughing, I can never say no to any adventure (but tbh I also see taking a different route home as an adventure), I love people, and I don't take things too seriously (seriously look at my profile pic what even is that).
If there's anything you want to know, or you just want to say hi, do send me a message! I'm always up for a good conversation ^^ Everyday I want to try something new; I don't think I'll ever really settle down. Or maybe I will. I have no idea, I'm still learning how this life thing works.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to be that cool grandma who always has the best stories to tell. I kinda live my life in a way to make my future grandkids proud. Couchsurfing is a perfect way of collecting those stories (so I won't have to make them up)! It's an amazing way to see the world and meet people, and learn what's far beyond the tourist guides.

Interests

I'm interested in a lot of things, and I always find new interesting stuff. So basically I'm interested in everything :P Just to name a few things: theatre, music, art (visual, performance/movement art, modern art, romantic art, etcetc), literature, philosophy, people, cultures, films, modern history, and way more! I'm also very interested in spirituality. For a long time I really wanted to find my own spirituality which I could hold on to; until I found out that the phase of life that I'm in right now is about not knowing and embracing that ignorance. I no longer need to know for sure, I'm still learning! But my curiosity is endless.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh dear, that's a lot. I'm literally obsessed with music, and my taste is super broad. I have noticed that most of my favorite bands/artists are from sometime between 1950 and 2000. The contemporary music that I'm interested in are mostly rock/punk/psychedelic bands, and dubstep, dub, drum n bass, and other bass music genres.
The DVD's that I always take with me are Back to the Future I, II, and III, Hair, Fame, and Inside Out. I also adore Stanley Kubrick's movies, those really dramatic Hollywood drama's, Scandinavian movies, and lately I've been really obsessed with BlacKkKlansman.
I also really love books, also 1950 - 2000 in particular. There is some great Dutch literature from those decades, for example Harry Mulish, Hella Haasse, Simon Vestdijk, Hugo Claus, and Arthur Japin. And I love Shakespeare.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to London for 7 days and saw 7 different plays, of which 3 in the Globe (I went there the year before as well), and it was epic. I saw the Tempest, Anthony & Cleopatra, Titus Andronicus, Julius Caesar, 1984, The importance of being earnest, Under Milkwood, and Richard III.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know quite some interesting music which I LOVE to share! And I can tell (and quote) a thing or two about Shakespeare :) And I love having interesting conversations!
