About Me

I recently moved from the United States to Australia, to be with the love my life, Adrian. I am now married to Adrian and learning to live life with him by my side. We have times of being home bodies but we always get a little restless and have to go explore something, whether it be an intellectual pursuit, a spiritual one, or just taking a trip somewhere.
I love my community in Brisbane, hanging out with those in my faith community, exploring new places in the area, nature walks, good chats about life and the meaning of it, writing, art, movies, and culture. Psychology is something that fascinates me at the moment. We love finding a new spot to have a good meal at whether it be with just us or others. I'm a bit of a foodie and love taking food tours in places I travel.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm trying to find a kind, trustworthy host who is able to take my husband and me in for two weeks while we make a long overdue visit to my family in the US. I haven't seen my family since February of 2016 when my husband and I got married in Australia. Their hearts are big but their accommodation small. We would love to have a chat over coffee or tea (I'm a tea girl), get a meal together, watch a movie, go to a market. I am interested in also getting to know others who love hosting and travel, so I can be a better host to others in everyday life, even if I don't take people into my home at the moment (my heart is big but my granny flat is super small). I have family in multiple states and also have an interest in travelling to places I've never been, such as the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Italy, Africa and others.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I love folk infused anything, pop, rock, soul, some country. Brooke Fraser, Needtobreathe, Jonny Lang (he's blues, I know), Civil Wars, and I tend to like some CCM as well, though it's hard to find artists that don't sound the same or have mainstream appeal enough to mention here. I grew up on Motown, CCM, and the pop ballad singers of the 1990's.

My taste varies from epics like Lord of the Rings, Period films like "sense and sensibility" to comedies like "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" (If you haven't seen that film- find it and watch it now!), to action/adventure like "Indiana Jones" and "Jurassic Park", to music oriented films like "Begin Again" and "Les Miserables". If it's a well-crafted movie, that isn't too dark or disturbing, or gratuitous I will likely watch it. Filmmaking fascinates me and I love to discuss it with those interested and more knowledgeable.

Books, I tend to lean towards inspirational, or "how to" books that teach me something, rather than just provide a good fictional story. I do enjoy CS. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia", "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen's P&P. It's hard to find good fiction written in the past 50 years, at least that I've been exposed to.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moved from America to Australia to get married. It was an epic journey for someone who had never been on an international flight before, much less a long-haul international flight. I've met some wonderful people and been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of Australians, especially the ones that attend church with me.

Teach, Learn, Share

As far as what I can teach, I'm a movie trivia buff and a bit of a movie critic. I love to talk about what makes a film good or bad, or watchable unwatchable or likeable or unlikable, and discuss other viewpoints.

I also love animals, have had many pets in my lifetime so I love to trade stories, tips and general interesting trivia.

I love to cook and talk food with others. I'm currently gluten free as a way to reduce some autoimmune problems that affect my skin, so I like to share the creative things I do to help. I love sharing food with others, making food for them and enjoying it with others. I love hosting people, considering their needs, and helping meet them.

I love to look after other people, so I can be a bit of a mother hen if someone needs it. I prioritize being kind, smart, listening to others, honouring rules and boundaries set by others I'm staying with and being a good guest.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Cooking skills, love for film and filmmaking, random trivia, a nurturing nature, a love for nature and people, kindness, love for pets, love of Australia, sense of humour.
