About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm a liberal Mormon. Yes, Virginia, we do exist. What that kid of means is that I'm not going to be interested in getting drunk, smoking, and 420 only for medical, but I've got no problem with you doing that (just not while you're staying with us.) I've got no problem with your sexual orientation and I support gay marriage.

I believe that people are generally good. I also believe that one can not truly appreciate their own faith without understanding and seeing the good in the faiths, philosophies, or even the non-belief of others. So I like to understand where people are coming from. But I am not interested in arguing who is right and who is wrong. Don't expect to try and convert me or have me try to convert you.

PHILOSOPHY

He is the wisest who knows that his wisdom is worth nothing at all. (Bonus points if you know who said that.)

Interests

I love to write fiction. Wish I could sell one of my manuscripts! When I travel, one of my favorite things is to try new foods. I love to cook. Walking, hiking, backpacking -- all standard stuff where I live in Colorado. I read voraciously and listen to audio books instead of music in the car.

I like to cook, and my oldest daughter has Celiac, so I know how to cook gluten free.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read a lot of YA, listen to a lot of audio books. I'm a big Dr. Who fan, and love absolutely everything by Joss Whedon. Don't listen to music much (I'm a mutant who isn't into music, but my husband listens to it constantly, and has very eclectic tastes.) But when I do listen to music, I like amazing vocals; think Freddy Mercury.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Recently escaped from my home as the Waldo Canyon fire came over the hill. What dumbfounded me was how generous and kind everyone was as we evacuated. You literally couldn't breathe outside of your air-conditioned car because the air was thick with smoke, but drivers were waving other cars into line, and friends from across town were still dropping by to see if they could help. My home survived, though many on my street didn't.

Another experience: I was at our cabin in the mountains looking out over the lake. The morning light was low, and something was back-lit as it moved across the surface of the water. I was dumbfounded at first, for the silhouette looked a little like Magicarp from Pokemon. As it came across the lake, I realized it was the head of a moose that had decided to swim across. The head and antlers were above water. It came ashore in our yard, water streaming from it. I ran outside and followed it (as close as I dared) until it disappeared into the trees.

Teach, Learn, Share

Need to eat gluten free? We don't have a dedicated gluten-free kitchen, but I know how to cook GF, and even a little Paleo.
