About Me

CURRENT MISSION

enjoy life and other people

ABOUT ME

I'm a pretty impressionable person, when I connect with people I always take away something that reshapes my world view a little. When I travel I like to find friends who can help me get to know a place below the surface, it makes the visit a lot more meaningful.
I try to find something in common with pretty much everyone I meet. I enjoy being active outdoors, running, biking on road or trails, and trying new activities when I get the chance. Crafting, carpentry and tinkering keep me busy the rest of the time. I can uphold a conversation on just about anything. I love good beer and good food.

PHILOSOPHY

try. keep trying.

Music, Movies, and Books

Verner Herzog and Jim Jarmusch are favorite directors, "Babette's Feast" was the best film I watched last year.
I love music of all kinds if it's made with some effort and creativity. I really love to read. Right now I'm reading Ansel Adams' autobiography and Jim Corbett's "Goatwalking", which is about pastoral nomadism as a form of passive social resistance. Recently enjoyed Erin McKittrik's account of her 4000 mile trek across Alaska with her husband in "A Long Trek Home" and before that John Muir's "A 1000 mile walk to the Gulf."
3 faves: Moby Dick, The Baron in the Trees, 100 Years of Solitude.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent half a year bicycling from Athens,Georgia to Portland, Oregon, then to San Francisco and spending short stints along the way working on small organic farms in Alabama, Missouri, Southern Oregon and California. T'was rad.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can show you basic bike maintenance and repair. I have decent cooking skills.
Maybe I can teach you a thing or two about unsupported bike touring, but maybe you can teach me a thing or two about backpacking.
I can teach you to knit or crochet, make sprouts, make yogurt, and plant a garden if the conditions are favorable.
I really want to get into fishing and hunting small game. Also I would like to try rock climbing and sea kayaking, but never have much money for gear.
