Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love the idea of the CS project. Using the web to create something of a global village seems to me a great way to combat some of the less savory aspects of a modernizing world in our e-age, so to speak.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed with Marta and her fine friends and housemates in London many many summers ago. I was only in the city for about 24 hours, so during the day, I went out and explored on my own, with many helpful hints and a map provided by my gracious hostess. I have to say though, the best part of my stop in London was hanging out with Marta and her housemates, cooking and eating, solving the world's problems!

Interests

Comics, vegetarianism, food (making it, eating it, playing with it, reading about it, sharing it- food in any capacity!), music, crafting (lately embroidery is my craft of choice), word games/ puzzles, punnery, cartoons, adventures, beer.

Music, Movies, and Books

This is another overwhelming topic; I'll leave it at this: I'm drawn to books, movies, and music that don't quite fit into a genre (even hyphenated ones), and that make me laugh in one way or another.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was a senior in college, my best friend was finishing his teaching certification, which entailed his teaching a class at a local high school. He wanted to teach the book 'Monster' to his kids, but the school didn't have the funds to purchase a copy for all of them. So the two of us plus another friend started calling up people we knew, asking everyone to chip in 7 dollars a piece to get a classroom set of the books. It took no time at all, and a lot of people gave more than 7 bucks- in the setting of the haphazard and far too often unfair US public education system, it was inspiring to watch our friends, family, and colleagues take an interest in these students.
