About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I love being a host whether for friends as we gather round the Thanksgiving table or for my children and their friends at their annual gingerbread house party, or for new friends that I have the pleasure of hosting through Couch Surfing.
ABOUT LAUREL AND SCOTT
Laurel is currently not working. She spent over 25 years seeing myself as a city employee.
Scott retired in December 2015 and is loving being retired.
Scott and Laurel love to travel. They have had some wonderful adventures, especially before they had children. Even with three children, they were able to travel the country visiting national parks as well as major cities. Their travel now tends to focus on visiting their children who have all moved to the midwest and one international trip each year.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We have been hosting through CouchSurfing for about a few years. Before this website, we have hosted on a very sporadic basis as it has been difficult to make connections. When we lived in Boston, we notified a couple of the consulates to let them know we had a free couch available. We only had one person take us up on it but it was a great experience.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We have hosted a bunch of groups at this point. I most enjoy it when we are able to share a meal and conversations. We have also "surfed" and it was a great experience.
Interests
Scott and Laurel enjoy hiking with their dog, floating the Rogue River, volunteering and working on projects around the house.
- dancing
- partying
- flying
- traveling
- painting
- surfing
- parks
Music, Movies, and Books
Favorite movies would include "My Cousin Vinny", "Snatch", and "Willow". We have a great ability to watch movies over and over and have probably seen these three at least a dozen times.
One of the joys of retirement is being able to read more.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Years ago Scott and Laurel hiked in Nepal. It was wonderful. The people were very kinds. They still love dal baht. The views and the countryside was incredible. It was kind of a simple time, eat, walk and sleep.
Laurel spent her 25th birthday in Cairo with people Scott and she had just met. He had taken a ship to Greece and she was to fly as it was a little cheaper that way and they were on a $2 a day budget. As a birthday gift, these new friends arranged a belly dance. It was the most special birthday.
They have three grown children. The children, now adults, bring tremendous joy to Scott and Laurel. And we now have a granddaughter and two more babies on the way.
