Sobre mí

I am freshly out of college and ready to see the world! I have a Bachelor's in Biology and am interested in molecular ecology, especially in the context of climate change and local adaptation.

I had a life-changing study abroad experience in Thailand as an undergraduate that got me hooked on travel. Even before I left the United States for the first time, I loved to learn about new places and try new food. I am very curious about the natural world and the people in it.

I am an open minded person and am a firm believer in serendipity, especially while I travel.

I am currently living at home with my parents, so I am unable to host. But I am looking forward to hosting in the future!

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

When I graduated college, my boyfriend of five years (Andrew) and I decided to teach english in Vietnam for a year. I worked in a lab for a year to save money and gain some experience and then we bought plane tickets, and sold my car and all my belongings! Two weeks before our departure, my dad had complications with his journey through cancer and had to get emergency surgery. Although he is stable now, we decided it was not the best time to leave the country. It has been a whirlwind these past few months but I have found that listening to travel podcasts and using social platforms such as Couchsurfing can be a great way to scratch the travel itch when I'm unable to explore the world.

Currently, Andrew and I are planning a month long roadtrip in November from Tulsa up to Calgary, then to Vancouver, and finally down the West coast of the United States. Along the way, we will be stopping through potential graduate schools, but mostly this is just a trip to meet people and do a little soul searching!
Although I love to research my destinations, I know that certain experiences can only be had if you meet and spend time with locals. Couchsurfing seems like an easy way to instigate these interactions!
We would love some guidance on where to camp and what to see/do on our journey.

We hope to meet you along the way :)

I love music and art festivals because they combine so many of my interests (yoga, beer/wine, good food, camping) and they are great places to meet people from all walks of life.

Música, películas y libros

I know saying you like all kinds of music is a cop out, but I really do! I grew up listening to country which explains my love for Bluegrass to this day (Railroad Earth, Greensky Bluegrass, Sam Bush, Chris Thile, Mandolin Orange, and more). I also really love Gorillaz, Little Dragon, Khruangbin, Tame Impala, Kurt Vile, Anderson Paak, and Solange. I also really enjoy early alternative such as Fleetwood Mac, The Velvet Underground, the Cranberries, and the Talking Heads. Finally, any band with Jack White! His concerts are legendary.

My all time favorite book is Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. Ever since I came across that book, I have been hooked on philosophical fiction such as Siddhartha, and novels by Cormac McCarthy and George Orwell. For "lighter" reading, I enjoy true crime novels written by Anne Rule or murder mysteries.

T.V. Shows I enjoy: Game of Thrones, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Parts Unknown with Anthony Bourdain, The Office, Breaking Bad, Nathan For You, Queer Eye, Parks and Recreation...just to name a few!

I am also up to date on the Zero to Travel with Jason Moore and My Favorite Murder podcasts

Algo increíble que he hecho

I rode in the back of a truck for 10 hours in Myanmar during their Water Festival and got to shoot people with a water gun! It was the shortest 10 hour ride of my life. Check out my photo!
