À propos de moi
I am a 30-year old Dutch male living and working in Amsterdam. My travel passion lies in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. It is my goal to visit all soviet-states, and so far I've covered already quite a few. The ones still missing on the list are: Moldova, the Baltic States, and Tajikistan. I work in media and tv production, mostly researching for tv shows that are focused on crime fighting and legal stuff, like helping people out who have been scammed or frauded on, and bringing justice to the criminals who did it.
As a teenager I read a lot of books about travelling in the countries of the former Soviet Union, and got very inspired to get to know more about it. Somehow I am drawn to parts of the world that are not very touristic, yet still so interesting.
When I travel, it is always my goal to connect with the local people, not necessarily to do all the touristy things. I am not on couchsurfing to find places to sleep, but to meet people and really indulge myself in the local life. As a person I value integrity and open-mindedness. I am not quick to judge and like to be curious about everything around me.
In my spare time I like to make electronic music with my collection of synthesizers and drum computers at home. I rarely play a perfomance on a public stage, but it does happen sometime. Other than that I am really into discover natural wines from all around the world. Travelling in Georgia I discovered amber/orange wine and ever since I have been hooked! Having an architect as a father also caused me to have a special interest in brutalist / socialist / soviet architecure. When travelling I always enjoy taking pictures of big concrete buildings :)
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
Travelling for me is all about making connections with local life. I don't want do the tourist act and just view all the sights, I want to get to know the people and make friends.
When travelling to Moldova, I am very curious how local people live, what is their daily life about, what do they like, dislike and what are their views on the world.
I heard a lot about Moldova... Tourists like to visit Transnistria, but I am curious what do Moldovans think of tourists visiting this region? I don't just want to go there, before informing myself on the Moldovans opinions on this.
Also I have heard some information on the Gagauzian Autonomous Region. I am also very curious about their culture. Possibly during Easter 2025 I will be in Gagauzia. If you are from there, I would love to get in touch with you.
Because I’m on a mission to visit all the countries in the former Soviet Union. Next up: Moldova!
