About Me

I am from Brazil, but am currently living in Madrid for my Masters degree in European Contemporary Photography. Previously I used to teach photography, play poker, do book design, drive for Uber, among other things. I love travelling, teaching, photography, art, cultural differences, cognitive processes.

I don't enjoy small talk all that much, even though I still do it for the sake of politeness; I prefer deep insightful conversations. I like company for most things, but sometimes I like to have some time by myself. I prefer having a beer with friends at a bar rather than clubbing.

A short text from Amyr Klink (Brazilian sailor) about traveling, which describes the reason I travel better than I would ever be able to:

"A man needs to travel. On his own, not through stories, images, books or TV. He needs to do it himself, using his eyes and feet, to understand what belongs to him. To one day plant his own trees and value them. To get to know the cold to enjoy the warmth. And the opposite. Feel the distance and lack of shelter to be comfortable under his roof. A man needs to travel to places he does not know to rid himself of the arrogance through which we see the world how we imagine it to be, and not simply how it is or can be. Which turns us into teachers of and phd's in what we have not seen, when we should be students, and simply go see it."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I really enjoy getting to know different cultures and languages and I also like the way you experience a city when you have someone who lives there to tell you about places, stories, and small details about local culture that you don't find in other sources. Because of that I also prefer to host people who have a similar view.

I have had some great experiences both surfing and hosting. I can't host now in Madrid but I used to host in Brazil, and I would be happy to continue to do so once I'm back there.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have a few not so crazy things but that were really intense experiences, like skydiving, getting lost at night with a rental car in the middle of nowhere in another country, spending the night at a train station talking to a deaf-mute who lives there, spent nine days at the hospital undergoing two surgeries...
