About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Revolution in my home city.

ABOUT ME

Hiya folks,

I was born and raised in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. After doing one year of exchange in Edinburgh, I decided to join CS and set out travelling a bit of western europe. It went fine! At the moment I'm back in Helsinki and trying to settle in again.

I have studied philosophy for quite a while in helsinki, and also done minors in comparative literature and cognitive science.

I have a general love of culture and the arts, music being my first love - I started playing the guitar at twelve and have been doing that ever since - but I also enjoy theatre, literature and well, actually culture in all it's forms.

I was raised bilingual, so my spoken english is excellent. Sadly, apart from fluent english and finnish my linguistic abilities are quite poor, but maybe I'll learn more while traveling! One can always hope.

PHILOSOPHY

Well, I don't really go for slogans, but life is full of mysteries and the world is an amazing place - it should be explored and enjoyed. Through mutual understanding and creation we will grow towards.. something.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been to a couple of CS meetings and showed people around my home city. Haven't hosted anyone yet.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I came to know couch surfing when traveling with a friend in slovenia. Thanks to his account we had a very excellent time in Ljubljana.

I did some Couchsurfing in Montpellier, in southern france, as well as met up with some CS people in Paris, Montpellier and Barcelona, so for it has been great, and I'm looking for more.

Interests

Culture. If one wants to specify: I especially like cool jazz, lots of popular music from the 60/70 to the present (from Dylan to Radiohead), I love russian short stories and enjoy watching a Samuel Beckett play.

Nature, chilling in parks, cities with (more or less recent) interesting history, enjoying life and having reflective conversations upon it. And of course, just seeing the world and meeting nice people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Films:
Jim Jarmusch: Coffee and Cigarettes, Down by Law.
Humphrey Bogart in the Maltese Falcon
In general just Lynch, Scorsese and such - a lot of americans I guess! But, I do love Kieslowski, Kaurismäki and people like that too.

Music:
Bela Bartok - especially his later stuff
Bob Dylan: Highway 61
Anything from Miles to the Beastie Boys I guess - a lot of finnish bands too.

Books:
Nikolai Gogol: The Nose
Charles Baudelaire: Le spleen de Paris
Paul Auster: The New York Trilogy

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I got lost on the finnish coast, walking on ice and snow, when I was six. Luckily we reached a harbour and a friendly sailor fished me and my friend out.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach:
History of western philosophy, and answer general questions in that area.
How to play something interesting on the guitar.
Some finnish or english, to you kind people.

It would be fun to learn:
Any other language, even a bit.
Something about drawing or visual arts in general.

Lot's of other stuff too.
