About Me

To show others that the world is an absolutely wonderful place, full of great people!

I will only host an individual that has at least 2 of the 3 verifications - payment, phone, address, usually!!!

I operate a guest house in my home, so I must minimize extra people, coming and going!
Firstly, I do not live/stay in Hilo, but 20 minutes north, up Hamakua coast. You will need a car, or use a bus to Honomu, then I am 1 mile from the center of the village. Or, you can hitchhike to Honomu, then walk the 25 minutes to my home. Hitchhiking is quite popular on the Big Island.

21 years military (retired),mostly Army Reserves, (Vietnam and Gulf War veteran) Worked 10 years in a factory; was self-employed for 8+ years; and worked for a major corporation., worked for a non profit (NGO) for 7+ years. And in Novemer 2015 I began operating a guest house for a friend that went back to the mainland for several months. I am open to exploring, lots of energy, healthy, liberal - am a Unitarian Universalist!
My wife is living in Ohio, for the year that I am in Hawaii. She visited me in late February 2016; and will return in October 2016, for a 2nd visit. We have 3 wonderful, grown children, and 3 grandchildren.

You go through life once - this isn't a dress rehersal!
I want to make this world a better place than I found it! Think of retirement (someday) as being life like the TV series "Golden Girls" - independent, but with others. I believe ANTHING is possible if one is willing to do what it takes!!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Been to a couple of events with the Columbus (OH) couchsurfing group., and hosted and been hosted.

Has always been exceptional, whether hosting or being hosted.

Biking and racquetball!! Discussing politics, religion, sexuality - nothing is off limits! Traveling - have seen only a small part of the world - 14 countries so far! Have burning desire to set up large hostel in Columbus OH.

In September 2016, I took a military hop to Guam, and had a great time, and fantastic Couchsurfing host!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like tear jerkers - movies. Most any kind of music. Read mostly non-fiction, though have read the Alexander McCall Smith's series, "No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency".
Enjoys non-fiction books on Africa, and any other non-fiction. Seem to be always reading some sort of book, magazine, or newspaper. Lately, am reading about self employment!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did 2 years in Peace Corps at 55 years old - and fell in love with Botswana and the people!! And, in Noveber 2015, I quit my job to come to Hawaii. In June 2015, I rode naked in the World's Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) in Columbus, OH, at the age of 65!!!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you racquetball, of course! And, I'm good at exploring options that most individuals haven't considered. Also, enjoy biking.
