Overview
About Me
Hey,
I'm Leonie, a student from Germany trying to see a bit of Europe and the world. I would describe myself as a calm, maybe bit introverted person. However I enjoy meeting new people and get to know different world views and lifestyles.
My interests are widespread: I like being outdoors doing birdwatching (yes that is a thing, and it is a lot of fun), climbing (indoor and outdoor), hiking. But I also enjoy cooking with other people, gameboard nights, knitting, reading. I love learning and trying new things, exploring cities and going to museums.
I'm vegetarian, trying to be mostly plant-based, however I make exceptions for a home-cooked meal, so don't worry about it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love that Couchsurfing gives you the opportunity to travel alone and still meet new people. Either if it's just for sleeping or you spend time together and get to know each other, it's nice to meet somebody that is living in the city, you visit, for longer. I also like the idea of the community sharing their space for people traveling, that could otherwise not afford to visit foreign countries and cities.
Of course I would also welcome people to my own home, but since I'm living in a shared flat in a dorm right now that might be a bit difficult, but that will change in future, so let's see.

Music, Movies, and Books
My music taste is quite broad, I guess, mostly alternative and oldies though (e.g. Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, alt-J, Chet Faker, etc.)
Same I can probably say for movies and books. I like fantasy, but enjoy an old classic or contemporary fiction from time to time. Last movie I watched: The Substance, Book I'm currently reading: Lord of the Rings
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I did a gap year before starting my studies at Helgoland, a 2 sqkm big island in the North sea. There I worked as a volunteer at a bird observatory and counted and ringed birds for one year. It was a pretty amazing experience, also because we got to meet many young people working at the station for a shorter period of time.
Teach, Learn, Share
I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I can show you some common birds and tell you some random facts about them. If you are a bird person by yourself, I would love to go birding together. Same goes for climbing ( I usually take my bouldering shoes with me on travels, since you never know).
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm happy to cook together. If it fits timewise and areawise I would also love to go climbing or birdwatching together.
