About Me

CURRENT MISSION

getting things done

ABOUT ME

Hey everybody! :)

I'm Léon and I'm a 19-year-old student from Southern Germany. I've recently enrolled at university and right now, I'm studying English and Classical Philology (mainly Latin) in order to become a teacher in both languages.
What's more... well, I'm fairly bad at describing myself, but I will try: I am short, considering that I'm German. :P I dearly love philosophy and languages and I listen to music 24/7. I also like going to the cinema, reading (well, I don't have any other choices, anyway :P) and singing while driving.

Oh, and apart from that, I have in me all the dreams of the world. (To give Fernando Pessoa, my favourite Portuguese poet, his usual reference here. :P Though I'm not good at Portuguese! My Latin is better, actually...)

PHILOSOPHY

Hm, that's difficult since I change it every day. I've been very fond of this phrase by Fernando Pessoa I've already used above, though. (I am repeating myself already... bad sign. :P)

«I am nothing. I shall always be nothing. I can only want to be nothing. Apart from that, I have in me all the dreams of the world.»
I know, this sounds kinda depressive, but I don't find it sad at all. I love melancholy and what we call «Sehnsucht» in German.

I want to live my life to the fullest. Sometimes this works out, sometimes it doesn't. However, I enjoy being here, even though life is difficult from time to time. At least, it never fails to surprise me. :P

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now, I'm still living with my parents, so it's hard for me to be a host unless my parents approve of it. Anyway, I certainly can show people around and introduce them to the culture of Rhineland-Palatinate, Mannheim or Heidelberg (this is where I study, so I spend quite a lot of time there).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Only positive ones thus far. (:

Interests

As I've already written above, I love philosophy and languages. Those are the two most important things you need to know, I guess, as they tell you a lot about myself. Other than that, I enjoy literature, playing the piano (so music in general)... I'm rather calm, I think. Although I wouldn't consider myself boring. Just find out for yourself! ^_^

Oh, and I also have undergone training as a paramedic, so I - more or less - know what to do in medical emergencies. :P

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite artist is Amanda Palmer (I dearly love every song by her!), but to be honest, I love almost every kind of music - especially if there's piano in it. I listen to indie-rock, post-rock, hip-hop, ... - anything. ^_^

When it comes to movies, my favourite ones are «The Lion King» (I love children's movies) and «Die fabelhafte Welt der Amélie». I like every kind of movie, though... as long as it has a deeper meaning. (Or is simply lovely, like «How To Train Your Dragon». :P)

My favourite book is rather easy: «Rumo & Die Wunder im Dunkeln» by Walter Moers. It's a German book and stunningly well-written. I've never been fascinated by a story that much before. I've devoured every book this man has written so far in a few days.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once tried to be a turtle. I wrapped a wooden shell around my torso, but it didn't work out well. :S
