About Me

I am a 23-year-old pastor living in a large parsonage attached to a church. I like to meet new people, and enjoy thinking critically about what it means to be in a community with others. I enjoytalking about the systems and powers that are at work in the world and doing my part in being a part of positive change in my community and in turn, in my world. I am very open-minded and am wanting to join together with others to start to get a better picture of the area that I live in. I also enjoy traveling, and would love to meet new people when I travel!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think in part I just really feel convicted to welcome the stranger into my home. I used to say that I like to practice radical hospitality, but I don't even know if there is such a thing so long as I live in the land of plenty. I think it can be so advantageous to meet people that are connected to the community in a very direct way when you travel and on both the hosting side and on the guest side, I am drawn to that type of community. I also live in a space that I have more square feet than I know what to do with, so I want to offer that extra space to be welcoming to others.

Music, Movies, and Books

C.S. Lewis Mere Christianity, Blue Like Jazz Donald Miller, Bat Man Dark Night, The Prestige (movie), Love Languages Gary Chapman, pretty much any books about the Enneagram or about ecology.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went on an eco-theology hiking trip in Maine in the fall with a group of random strangers. It was such a blast, very beautiful outdoor areas, and wonderful fellowship together.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach - A wide variety of different coffee brewing techniques, Any questions you might have about Iowa culture (I have spent most of my life in the Des Moines area), if you have any interest in volunteering, justice/advocacy work, and/or church life I am happy to point you in the direction of many different groups in the area.

Learn - Just about anything you are willing to teach! I am open minded, and aware that when people travel they bring their own gifts and graces with them. My goal is to be open and accepting to you right where you are just as you are, if I fall short of that feel free to call me out on it. There is no expectation from my end that for you to teach me anything, but I hope you would find me as eager of a student as you are a teacher.

Share - The beautiful praire area's around me, the garden in my back yard, I am connected to a handful of different church communities if that is something you are interested in, food (I really love cooking/baking!), My time and attention, my city!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My life experience, a curiosity of wanting to learn about the area that they live in, groceries, and/or cooking together or for each other, helping out with chores as needed, exploring your city with you I am an open-minded traveler!
