ABOUT ME
I'm a random person. I enjoy spontaneous activities, unplanned events, and surprises. In groups I love to listen to other people talk about their areas of expertise, but unfortunately I have none, so I contribute to conversations by interjecting random stories, generally about my own or witnessed foolishness. I've also begun a series of stories based on the awesome and odd things I see during my commute (not an original topic but definitely amusing).
I'm an avid traveler, and my home-base, until very recently, was the midwestern town where I grew up, just outside Chicago. After grad school and a few years of work I've finally made my way back to Washington DC, my dream destination! I'm excited to meet new people and groups after spending so long in the same place. Since I just started a new job I won't be doing too much traveling for a little while, so I'm filling the void by talking to other travelers and living vicariously through their stories.
PHILOSOPHY
While I love listening to others discuss philosophy, my own thoughts tend to focus closer to home. House the homeless, feed the hungry, etc. I think that volunteering is the most important thing I can do with my time. Whether that means volunteering to give up my seat on the bus (on a bad day) or helping to build a Habitat for Humanity house (good day), it keeps me going.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm new to couch surfing, so I'm hoping to start off by getting involved in the social events. So far it's been a great way to meet new people and experience fun local activities, and I'd like to give the actual couch surfing a try next time I travel.
Interests
education, media, politics but of course I can't even begin to keep up with that in DC...I run and walk and hike when I can, I love music and movies but am awful about finding new things on my own so I always need suggestions or I'll just watch and listen to the same things over and over. I could happily spend days at a time reading pretty much anything...books magazines and newspapers included. I've come to the conclusion that few things in life are more special than a Sunday morning in my favorite cafe with a good cup of coffee and time to read the newspaper front to back. *GEEKBLISS*
