关于我

Couchsurfing beginner, so this is all new to me! I've been travelling the world since October 2016, I love travelling, meeting new people from various countries, backgrounds etc. I like to think I'm fairly easy going, and can hold up a decent conversation, I love learning about customs and nuances of different cultures.

I'm currently the manager of a supermarket taking a sabbatical to experience more of what the world has to offer.

Obviously I love to travel, it's great to spend an extended period of time in a country, getting to know the locals and get off the beaten track where possible, Couchsurfing I believe allows you to do this, essentially living like a local. I do keep a travel blog on PolarSteps tracking my journey (a highly recommended app), but it's hard to keep it updated, as I think you should be just out there enjoying yourself, rather than just constantly rambling away/posting pictures everyday to social media.

I always try to watch any local sport wherever I happen to be (providing the price is reasonable!), recently in Australia I went to the Boxing Day cricket test at the MCG, later the Big Bash League derby between the Melbourne Stars and Renegades, culminating in the Australian Open at the Rod Laver Arena.

You never know what might crop up or fall through with accommodations, or if an unexpected event or holiday is happening where you're travelling to when you haven't heard anything at all about. It's an opportunity to celebrate the meeting of different diverse cultures, and in the future I hope that I can reciprocate to the Couchsurfing community.

音乐、电影和书籍

I'd say I have a fairly eclectic taste in music; Alt-J, Arcade Fire, Biffy Clyro, Bloc Party, Bombay Cycle Club, David Bowie, Elbow, Eminem, Foals, Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, The Killers, M83, Maxïmo Park, MGMT, Pulp, Queen, Taylor Swift, Temper Trap, UB40, We Are Scientists, White Lies and Yeah Yeah Yeahs are just a small selection of some of the crap I listen to.

I'd like to think that I can watch almost anything bar horror and rom coms, as long there's some quality to be found. Arthouse, world cinema, sci-fi, and war films are my bread and butter. I'll name 10 films, to keep it short, but will be harder than sounds to list: There Will Be Blood, El espíritu de la colmena, La piel que habito, Star Wars, Event Horizon, Blue Valentine, Half Nelson, We Were Soldiers, Hacksaw Ridge, Edge of Tomorrow and L.A. Confidential.

I don't read as often as I like to, work being the main culprit. But I love the whole of Middle Earth: The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion etc. James Ellroy's L.A. Quartet, Chuck Palahniuk, and Bret Easton Ellis to name a few.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Recently, after taking a detour into India, I decided to go to Nepal. Whilst I was researching doing the Annapurna Circuit, a person that we had met a few weeks previously, happened to be staying in the same hostel as us in Kathmandu. She just returned from Everest Base Camp, after talking to her at length of her adventure in the Khumbu, she convinced me that I should go to Everest also.

Starting from Shivalaya, following the footsteps of Hillary and Norgay, we trekked through the Khumbu region with our goal being Everest Base Camp. After a week of wondering why we were doing this, as we had done a few passes climbing up 1km vertically in single days. We passed the fly by nighters arriving in Lukla, struggling with even the smallest climbs. After nearly another two weeks, after I had spent several days ill in bed, we made it to Base Camp. Probably not the wisest thing to do, but I was not going to get any better, so willpower and determination, I completed the biggest challenge I had faced; exhausting, but worth it.

Being a Yorkshireman, I can show you how to make the quintessential part of a Sunday roast, the humble Yorkshire Pudding!

Also you can practice English with me, and if you happen to speak Spanish I can practice mine, but also I'm always willing to learn just a small part of a new language to help me get by, and not feel like the typical ignorant Englishman abroad.
