I always try and kick around with a paperback in my pocket and at the moment it's Hemingway's "Kilimanjaro". Some others I've read recently include: Joseph Heller - "Catch 22", Albert Camus - "The Outsider" and "Emergency Sex And Other Desperate Measures" - Three UN workers from the 90's describe their experiences.

In terms of tunes, I listen to a vast array of styles all the way from the heavy "Tool" to the folk songstress "Laura Marling". Some favourites include "Queens Of The Stone Age", "Radiohead", "Ben Harper", "Bonobo", "Yeah Yeah Yeah's" and "The Mess Hall". Music is a huge part of my life but if it's not for you, I don't mind, there are more important things in life ...like pasta.
