Overview
About Me
I am an Vietnamese-American-Irishman (tri Vietnam/US/Irish national) living in Singapore, after 12 years in Lyon, France. In Singapore I hope to get to know new people and travel around Asia. I'm very interested in politics and international events, and it is always interesting to hear non-Americans' views on the world and the US. I enjoy a good bottle of French wine, nice coffee outside in city squares watching people, and talking about travels.
When I travel my priorities are visiting the tourist sites (museums, monuments, buildings, squares, etc.) and taking lots of photos! To me, my photos are my travel journal. Someday I hope to write a book somehow incorporating my many travels. But for now I focus on the traveling part rather than the writing part.
As I often travel alone, I love to meet new people and learn about the place I am, and learn about people themselves. More than just a quick chat at a store, I like to learn about how people got where they are, and where they want to go.
And I love to exchange travel stories.
I've been to more than 60 countries, and many of them I have visited quite a bit of, while others I have only seen one or two places (probably the capital).
I recently published a novel (www.liamhdooley.com) which is an backpacking international crime adventure, inspired by my travels. It even has a Couchsurfing element!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I go to parties and meetings when I travel. I have never stayed at a couchsurfer's place, and don't have room for one in Lyon. But again, I love to have a coffee, meet up at a bar, or join a CS party. As I travel a lot, for work and pleasure, it is nice to meet people who are open to visitors and travelers rather than sit by myself in a dark corner of a bar being ignored, or even worse locked up in my hotel room.
Interests
Opera, classical music, traveling, cats, French, France, politics, history, wine, movies, etc. I enjoy a range of art, history, archaeology, culture, etc. I usually try to visit city history museums, and national history museums first; as well as monuments, palaces, and any site that is unique and/or famous for the city or place.
I also love to go to places where not many people go - but of course, these places are harder to get to and I'm less likely to be anywhere near them.
