About Me

ABOUT ME

They'd say I was a good friend, funny, easy going, active, gregarious, and opinionated.

PHILOSOPHY

You can't control what happens to you, but you can control how you react to it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I travel quite a bit, have couchsurfed in other countries, and absolutely love to host travelers and meet the locals when I travel. I like to keep the karmic wheel spinning. I've heard that this site has shifted in a negative way in that male hosts are looking to meet foreign females to hook up. I have a wonderful girlfriend with whom I travel and I'm on here to host travelers and I'd hope they can host us in return.

Interests

When I am traveling, I seek out historical sights and epic landscapes. My most recent trip was Southern Spain and Morocco. This winter Sarah and I are hunting cheap flights anywhere warmer than Alaska with more sunlight! We are looking to travel December through March.

Music, Movies, and Books

House of Leaves, LotR, S.M. Stirling novels, The Name of the Wind, GoT, Life of Pi, The God of Small Things, history, historical fiction, fantasy, sci-fi.

Amelie, Life is Beautiful, Run Lola Run, The Fall, Princess Bride, The Darjeeling Limited, Moonrise Kingdom

House, Blackadder, Monty Python, Dr. Who, Star Trek TNG, BBC stuff,

My music collection goes from sixties folk on vinyl to local bluegrass bands on CD, and an iTunes library with everything from Byzantine church music to Metallica.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling in poor places, like the Ukraine and seeing how people manage to creatively solve problems cheaply. Don't have a truck but need one? Cut the top off your van. Need a trash can but can't afford one? Just tie a trash bag to a tree. The city can't afford to light all of the lights? Just light every other one.

Landscapes have also impressed me. I live in Alaska and it's an awe inspiring place. I remember a day when the weather was perfect on Passage Canal, a fjord leading to the Pacific Ocean. It was so nice, we podded our kayaks, opened a beer, and played cards while surrounded with ridiculous beauty.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook a bit, am totally willing to clean and work, know some car mechanics, have studied lots of history and geography, and have lots fo great stories. I am an excellent Alaska tour guide. I work for the railroad and know every thing a tourist should see and do. I might be able to offer a bike and my house is close to the airport and downtown.
