À propos de moi

If you REALLY want to know *about me* go here:

https://lifeisacamino.com/2018/08/13/what-are-you-escaping-from-what-is-hurting-you-what-are-you-fighting-for/

the password is lifeisacamino You don't actually have to read this, though.

More general "About" me:

From 2013 until 2016, I spent most of my time traveling around Europe and doing your typical backpacking things, like visiting famous cities such as Paris or Berlin, and some not so typical backpacking things, like walking 1,000 miles on the Camino de Santiago (guess where my username/blog name came from?), spending 6 weeks on a farm in Normandy, and volunteering at a refugee camp in Croatia.

I've benefited enormously from the kindness strangers have shown me, whether from people who picked me up when I was hitch-hiking, to the many awesome couchsurfing hosts who treated me like family.

In 2016 I settled down in Portland with my girlfriend Caitlin and her two hilarious (and dumb) cats Clyde and Jasper. We're pretty open to helping out people who are passing through. We've got a nice comfy futon in our living room for guests to sleep on. We usually don't have time during the week to entertain surfers and prefer that they do their own thing.

We're both remote freelancers so we're pretty flexible in terms of scheduling. We're into dumpster diving, going to see live music performances, reading books, watching soccer (we love our Portland Timbers), and craft beer.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

My very first CS experience was in August 2013. I was in the small town of Bourges, in the center of France, when I was lost while walking the Camino de Santiago, and a very nice guy named Hippo invited me into his home :) I have hosted a handful of times but the overwhelming majority of CS experiences I have were as a surfer. Very grateful for the hospitality people have shown me. It's incredible how giving people are.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Music: I listen to a lot of ambient, post-rock, instrumental music. But also plenty of different genres. I love to share :)

Writers:

Saramago. Hemingway. Galeano. Franzen. McCarthy. Neruda. Politkovskaya. Toibin. Moore. Larkin. Vonnegut. Terzani. Twain. Orwell. Calvino. Chaucer. McEwan. Bradbury. Lahiri. Jemison. Zinn. And many, many more.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

meh. I get so bored sharing the same travel stories all the time. I've been to cool places, you've been to cool places. Great. That's not important. What's important is how your travels shape the way you live your life.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

The less you own, the more you have. Living out of a backack for a few years is a great way to learn that. Also, traveling is fun and meeting new people is cool, but it gets very superficial after a while. Out of the 100s of people I have met through CS, I would say I am only close with about 5 of them. Life goes on.

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

Good food, a warm place to sleep, high speed internet, two dumb cats, weird music, how to become a remote freelancer, leftist literature.
