About Me

Hi! My name is Liko. I’m traveling around the world on my gap year. I grew up all around the San Francisco Bay Area. I like tea, philosophy, cats, and walking for 24+ hours straight(among other exciting things).

I like to keep my life filled with as many new people as possible. broadening my perspective and cultural exchange is what makes me happiest. If you want to drink tea, explore paths less travelled, or otherwise new ways of living, then we will get along very well!

PHILOSOPHY:
The person who loves walking walks further then the person who loves the destination.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

3 years ago I made a promise to myself that I would interact with as many humans, from as many different places, with as many different perspectives as I could. Couchsurfing seems like a great way to facilitate that expansion of perspective and cultural exchange. There are few things more incredible then the opportunity to interact with so many different kinds of people :).

Once I return, I plan to become a host as soon as I can.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music
I listen fairly eclectically, one of my favorite things is to exchange music recommendations.
Some of my favorite artists are:
John Coltrane, The Beatles, Tricot, Aesop Rock, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, The Talking Heads, Lou Reed, Shostakovich, Patti Smith, The Magnetic Fields, Simon & Garfunkel, Tinariwen, Os Mutantes, Lennard Cohen, The Mountain Goats, Slayer, Burial, Prince

Books
lately I have been reading a lot of Sartre and Kant though I'm fairly new to reading philosophy. currently, travelling around the world on a shoestring budget seems like the least alienating way to live my life. I also gravitate towards Road Books such as On The Road(Jack Kerouac) and Speed Of Lightness(Barrie Sherwood). Histories/Biographies appeal to me as well, especially ones primarily consisting of interviews with eye-witnesses. Really any book that skillfully transports you to a specific time and/or place.

Movies
Big fan of the sci-fi surrealism of Andrei Tarkovsky. Some of my closest friendships started from a shared love of his films. the films of Akira Kurosawa are incredible as well.
