About Me

Currently, I'm studying to be a Spatial Planner. I've always loved mathematics and science, and, to quote Hermione Granger, "I'm hoping to do some good in the world" with it when I've graduated university.

I'm an introvert but passionate. I enjoy controversial debates and meaningful conversations about a wide range topics. I love travelling and getting to know different cultures and different people. Music is and has been really important in my life; I play the piano and the trumpet and I love singing. I cherish my books; they will always be there to introduce to me other worlds and give me heroines, heroes and role models. Whenever possible, I love going to the opera, the theatre or concerts (classical or pop/rock music); alone, with friends or with my boyfriend.

I'm a better baker than cook (luckily, my boyfriend and I balance each other out in that regard), and going out to "party" is my idea of personal torture.

"The most important thing in life is kindness" is the life motto my grandfather lives by, and I fiercely believe in that. Everyone is welcome in my home, regardless of race, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, etc. - basically, as long as you're a good person and don't set out to hurt others, we're good.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Everything about the idea behind couchsurfing appeals to me.

What I love most about travelling is that you get to explore a completely foreign culture, and learn a new language or practice your language skills. You make impactful memories and gain experiences. Getting to know locals and exchanging experiences is the perfect, and, in my opinion, most authentic, way to do that. It's an entirely different experience from staying at a hotel and visiting the top 3 sights.

As far as hosting goes, I absolutely love the concept of helping someone experience or understand your culture and your lifestyle, and opening your place to someone, sharing your space, without expecting anything in return.

Interests

I imagine that my interests don't differ much from everybody else's. Let's see.

I like:
listening to music, reading (and writing), playing the piano, singing, hiking, ballroom dancing

I enjoy:
Debates and conversations, Puns, travelling and exploring/getting to know different cultures, Logic Puzzles, Riddles and Crossword-puzzles, going to the opera or theatre

I'm interested in:
Languages, Politics, Philosophy, Social Justice, Environmental issues

Also, I'm a Vegetarian.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love reading, and I've read all kinds of things from Lord of the Rings to Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities. My only problem is that there is so much to read and so little time.

Music is incredibly important to me, and on my iPod (the true love of my life) you can find everything. From Beatles and Queen to Nightwish and Within Temptation; from ABBA and Adele to Hamilton and Les Mis; from MCR and Billy Talent to Beethoven and Strauss.

I do watch films from time to time, of course, but I can't say that I've got a favourite film. I tend to prefer books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I can't say that I've done anything exceptional in my life, really, but for me personally, the most amazing thing I've ever done was without a doubt my 8-month stay abroad in China four years ago.
Going in to a Chinese high school in Zhengzhou (郑州) for a semester and living with a host family has not only made me more or less fluent in Chinese and given me a deep understanding of Chinese culture; it has also shaped and changed me as a person, and made me look at many things in a different way.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my experiences and exchange stories. And, of course, if the host is interested, I'm always up for good (or silly) conversations and debates (political or otherwise). I'm also very interested in hearing about other people's experiences and adventures.
