Über mich

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to travel to as many places as my means will take me! I am open to all destinations and I am also wondering about hooking up with travel buddies as well. It would be amazing to find other people who are as passionate about the world as I am.

ABOUT ME

I am turning 25 next month. im leaving in september for the west coast. i want to do experience what the outdoors in california can feel like. im am interested in meeting people who are friendly and open to introducing adventure to those less experienced types.
i know a lot history and politics. i read a lot about disease and poverty. i know there is a big world out there and i know that i am far from fully understanding it.

PHILOSOPHY

There are so many :)
I do think that my most important one takes the shape of an anthem for life: IS.
Focusing on what IS helps me to remain passionate about what can BE. The most basic verb is "to be". I AM here. This IS life. We ARE powerful.
Every time I stop and meditate on this understanding, I feel open to infinity.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Actually, I can share something here. When I was growing up, my mother took my sister and I to sleep-away camp every summer for 8 years. Because my mom was on staff, we became very close with all of the other staff members of counselors and activities specialists. Many of these people were in there twenties and early thirties and most of them were international staff who were placed at the camp through a program called CampAmerica. This organization placed international citizens with jobs at american summer camps and then provided them with travel money and a six month travel visa. The camp itself was in Pennsylvania, but we came from south Florida. So every year, at summers' end, we would have a number of the international staff come and stay with us. For me, this was heaven because I was very attached to camp and to the people I connected with there. As an adult, I remember how I would look forward to being an additional part of their experience. Some have kept in touch with our family over the years. We still receive emails with pictures of their spouses and children! As a child, I always assumed that I would have similar experiences where I would find a way to work and connect with other places, countries and cultures.

Interessen

I have many many interests and passions. I read a lot. I have gone through countless phases as far as genres go, but I have steadily found interest in post-colonial studies and narrative. Much of my degree in cultural anthropology has opened me up to a broad range of ethnographic reading. I am very inspired by cultural relativism and paradox.
Outside of the academia, I am a very passionate, artistic and creative soul. I love the arts, my guitar, and the idea of inspiring creation and progressive action.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Music has quite an affect on me. Frank Zappa is god in so many ways, ha. My early years were spent listening to the music of the 60s and the pot was smoked to the turns of The Beatles, pink floyd, jimi hendrix, janis joplin, crosby stills and nash, bob dylan, and the rest. In high school my favorite band was Live and I thought every moment could be lived to the tune of their throwing copper album. I was also pretty jaded and headstrong so bands like Tool and A Perfect Circle really spoke to me. Ani Difranco probably was my best therapist. Thanks to her, I have no more anger and a quaint little voice to go with my unabridged head. After high school, I moved as far away from South Florida as I could afford and befriended the record store on Wickeden Street. Here, I transcended into the world of singer-songwriters who were safe, in retrospect, but they spoke to me anyway. In college, I entered into the world of radiohead, jeff buckley, explosions in the sky, modest mouse, telefon tel aviv, the pixies, bjork, ratatat, and all other indie-music scenster bands. My heart belongs to music and my head is the better for it.

My first understanding of a good book was J.D. Salinger's Catcher in the Rye. Holden Caulefield is my true love. He has taught me how to talk about my emotions. Anthem by Ayn Rand is probably my next favorite book for more reasons than I can think of talking about right now.
