ABOUT ME

At the moment I'm trying to squeeze everything out of life and youth that I can: traveling, living in new places with new people, doing all that I really can before I figure out what I really want to do and where I want to settle in.

Currently, I'm living, traveling, and working in New Zealand as a chef. It's been awesome so far and I'm sad I'll have to be saying goodbye soon.

Past is the past but it is who you are, so here ya go: I graduated with my bachelor's degree in nutrition in 2014. During that time I also got a pastry degree and worked as a cake decorator and in culinary nutrition. The best part was teaching 12-16 year olds about nutrition and how to cook. After college, I moved to Malawi, Africa for three months to work in aid and research for malnutrition in pregnant women and infants. The rest is a mix of traveling, working for a doctor, more travel, and then I guess we're caught up to the present.

I love CS. It's a true testament to human kindness and trust. It helps you meet locals in a new area and allows you to get to know a culture with a personal touch.

Interessi

I'm a curious and open person. I love to learn about and try new things, especially cultural ones, even if they're a bit strange or unpleasant seeming (thinking of docking sheep in NZ at the moment. Muddy and bloody but cool because it was something I'd never done and I got to see what sheep farmers go through every year).

I also love climbing. I started bouldering in CA a couple years back and became completely addicted to the sport. I fell in love with the way it challenges you to solve puzzles, builds confidence, and is just generally an amazing way to get fit and see amazing views. To me, it's meditative and thrilling at the same time. Yeah...I like climbing. =]

Musica, film e libri

I love to play, listen to, and find new music. I've played piano since I was young but have been trying to pick up the guitar a bit more.

Music: Radiohead, Father John Misty, Alabama Shakes, The Beatles, more (it's kind of hard to just list off your favorite bands)...Classic rock, indie rock, gypsy jazz, general jazz, swing, electro swing, trad irish, contemporary irish, classical, cultural.

Movies: Her, Silver Linings Playbook, About Time, independent films, horror, sci-fi, drama...Anything good!

Books: Wind-up Bird Chronicle, Cloud Atlas, Song of Ice and Fire (woot woot!)

TV: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Office, Game of Thrones, Rick and Morty, BoJack Horseman, The Walking Dead, Arrested Development, Wilfred, Sherlock

Held new born infants in Malawi from malnourished mothers in our study and hearing them thank us in Chichewa for their (sometimes first ever) healthy baby.
