About Me

CURRENT MISSION

eat every variety of lagman

ABOUT ME

We are Stephanie and Joe. Stephanie is Polish-Mexican from Detroit and Joe was born and raised on the shores of Lake Michigan. We've been running around together since college, from Moscow to Timbuktu (literally), and spent a few awesome years living in Budapest.

Stephanie's earning a master's degree in international environmental policy and Joe works via the Internet. Stef was granted a fellowship to go to Kyrgyzstan for a year, so we packed up and moved from the California coast to Bishkek.

PHILOSOPHY

the early bird gets the worm (stef)
marmalade is tasty if it's very thickly spread (joe)

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfing and hosting
**We are COOKsurfers**
We love cooking together with our hosts and guests. Lately we're on a Korean food streak.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've surfed and hosted in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Interests

filmmaking, music, bikes, cooking, exploring abandoned places, Camino de Santiago

We like to cycle and we make documentary films. Our website: http://www.pedalingpictures.us/

Music, Movies & Books

Joe's a drummer and studied film so he has a degree in being hip but not too trendy. Stephanie knows a lot of languages and likes reading books in their original language. Her idea of fun is learning even more languages.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Stef crossed the Mauritanian Sahara on an iron ore train.

Joe threw a paper airplane off the top of Huayna Picchu (but he usually believes in the Three R's).

Teach, Learn, Share

We've both lived and traveled in a lot of interesting places and we have lots of stories to swap. We enjoy collecting unexpected, imaginative, or quasi-legal travel tips.

We're interested in exploring sites and sights, but as church-and-monument tour guides we can only promise irreverence. We'd much rather take CSers on a marshrutka tour or bike ride through the faded charming areas of Bishkek, industrial sites, abandoned factories, and lively spots in lesser-explored districts.

What I Can Share With Hosts
