About Me

THINGS HAVE CHANGED 🚀. I've moved, and both couchsurfers and I need to adjust. The apartment is in excellent shape, thanks to quite some effort🌟. It's crucial that the furniture remains in good condition, especially since some pieces aren't mine.
You're welcome to come over, stay, and enjoy the amenities, but I ask for your RESPECT 🙏:

0. Hit me up on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lionel-trebuchon/, Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/lionel.trebuchon/, or per message: +41 78 920 39 37
My preferred way is Linkedin.

1. The queen of the house is Oliwia (Oli). She’s a dear friend and will be staying with me for a while. She has her own room, I have mine, and couchsurfers have a large room with a lock, which includes a balcony.
Oli and I have priority for the shower (we shower in the morning).

2. Guys, please sit down to pee. If that's too much for your macho vibe, sorry, but you'll need to find another place 🚽.

3. Long-haired guests: Please be mindful of your hair shedding. I can't be cleaning up after everyone all the time 🧹.

4. Trash: please simply don't generate trash. Try refraining from wrapped goods, be aware that we separate carton, glass, aluminium and PET bottles. Please find how to throw out glass, PET and aluminium yourself. Organic goes into the green trash outside. Everything else usually goes into the blue bags, but they're very expensive: 3CHF for a 17L bag. I hope this knowledge helps you in your shopping decisions.

5. Cooking: Know your skills. If you're unsure how to use a utensil or maintain a non-stick pan, better not to use it. And if you break something, just tell me—nothing makes me more disappointed than discovering hidden damages 🔍.

6. Personal note: I'm currently single but hoping to change that soon. In the past, some rare guests (particularly some ladies) have tried to cross boundaries. Just a heads-up, that won't work 😉.

7. Reviews are appreciated: If you stay, please leave a review. It helps me feel valued and makes it easier for me to remember who stayed 📝.

8. Camera interview: I’d love for you to participate in a short camera interview in my room; instructions are available if I'm not there 🎥.

9. Plant care: If I'm not around, please water the plants 🌱.

No hidden messages in my profile 😊. From now on, you can continue reading or not; it's totally up to you!

Gifts: No need for a gift unless you think it's a really great idea 😄. I'm generally vegetarian and not into alcohol or sweets 🥦🚫🍫.

I’d like to prioritize African couchsurfers. Please send African friends my way if they haven't found a place yet. I've hosted more than 2000 people but nearly no Sub-Saharan Africans, possibly due to lack of awareness about couchsurfing and visa issues they often face 🌍.

2025: I moved apartment, changed job, I fell in love, I know there's still loads to be learnt, and I enjoy some notoriety in the world of tech x planetary boundaries. We as humans can do better for our future, I want to nudge us into the right direction.

2024: I presented at conferences on topics of energy etc..., I cooked for bigger events, and I slowly prepared for moving out of what was my home for 6 years.

2023: Member of the NGO theshifters.org, which focuses on climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the energy transition. Slowly assembling videos to create my first Instagram and TikTok content, which are supposed to be short documentary videos. Find me on both @igWith30 (it's my first account, be patient with me and my posting, I'll get there) 🎬.

2022: I would like to start a podcast about tech and my love for Europe 🎙️.

2021: Reconnected with old friends, helped some NGOs with data analytics, and cemented my place at my company. I've definitively dropped my startup and am thankful my co-founders don't have hard feelings. I tried to help people, met many with different opinions, and am still learning to be a better conversation partner 😊.

2020: My year started much better than 2019! I like my job, accept that I can't please everyone, and have managed to help many already 🙂. My housemate chastises me because I don't put any effort into my Mandarin 🤷‍♂️. Maybe I'm getting old. I also haven't taken a plane for personal reasons for a year now! I try my best not to sink deeper into the environmental impact scoreboard. Main goal: learn to persuade people who do not share my opinions.

2019: Haven't improved on guitar yet. I'm trying to balance my personal and professional life with my belief that we don't need many things to be happy, and that we should respect our ecosystem and fellow humans. I have a comfortable life, so the least I can do is share some of it. I am keen on learning more about engineering, sciences, and languages, and am currently on a good track for all of them 😉

2017: Would like to learn guitar. I am a Mechanical Engineer working around Zürich. I aim to continue being an excellent listener and a fun conversationalist. My dancing skills have decreased a bit due to significant knee injuries. I'm knowledgeable about cooking, history, politics, most non-social sciences, garden life, and wine 🍷.

2013 Description: French-European student in mechanical engineering (Mother tongue: French and German, fluent in English and Spanish). What I always bring: music (playlists, speakers...), and something from France or Switzerland if asked for. What I always provide as a host: a bed, hopefully good food, music, and free entry to student parties 🎉.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because I like the concept of having someone over without there being too many obligations.

Interests

I love anything that fosters a worldwide community, and takes climate-change and global fairness seriously. I can present at conferences on topics of energy, mining, resources and climate change.

Music, Movies, and Books

Find me on https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/44125993-lionel-trebuchon
I used to like the books by James Clavell, by Cornelia Funke, by Asimov.

My favourite book would be To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
I generally like books about society, Thomas Piketty, Yuval Noah Harari, Michael Lewis, Ken Follet...
I very much enjoy podcasts.

My music tastes are as varied as they can be. I love dancing so...

I'm a bit shorter on the movie side. I have trouble with many movies portraying heroes, usually during war, because it feels very futile and arrogant/egocentric to me. France is not particularly good at portraying their history in an objective light, and the USA and UK (especially where the World Wars are concerned) might be even worse. Sadly. Sadly, because they dominate the industry.

I hope the "Films d'auteur" (such as "Rocky" in the US-context) will make a come-back, and also that we will get to see more movies from as of now ignored markets, such as much of Asia, Africa, and to a certain extent South America. <3 Movies like Parasites, The Eel, Tampopo, Soul Kitchen, Intouchables etc...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I used to have something listed here. But amazing things can get very personal, and people define "amazing" in various ways.

I have been very generous in my life. I am also a person who cannot be bullied.

So i guess: I've built a good and strong human being ^^

Teach, Learn, Share

Bessie Coleman (January 26, 1892 – April 30, 1926) was an American civil aviator. She was the first woman of African American descent, and the first of Native American descent, to hold a pilot license. She received this International Pilot License in Paris in 1921.

I think it is remarkable to know that such a thing as an International Pilot License already existed back then, and that people had to go such lengths so as to achieve their dreams.
It is even more remarkable that she was successful.

I can usually give bike reparation tips! Or cooking or wine buying tips ;) .
