Being with locals means you gonna have an awesome time - that's my experience at least. If you stay at somebody's you meet new and interesting people, you get to know them better, sometimes you even keep in touch and that's what I love - good conversations (not just smalltalk), making new friends, having a good time!
Even as a host you kind of travel without leaving home - travellers tell you about their country and lifestyles, which is also pretty cool :-)

Working as a "cowgirl" in the outback of Queensland, Australia. Mustering cattle on horses and on the weekends I rode the bullocks on rodeos - I had an unforgettable time!
