Als der Mensch noch über dem offenen Feuer kochte, gab es ein Gestell zum befestigen des Topfes. Wenn das Essen schneller erhitzt werden sollte, wurde der Topf um einen Zahn tiefer eingehängt. Darum sagen wir heute "einen Zahn zu legen".
