UPDATE: currently on Erasmus in Amsterdam, which I'm enjoying a lot. I cannot host here, but would be totally willing to hang out. Also I'm trying to do a documentary on couchsurfing for my layman film class, so if you are up for talking to me about your experiences, that'll great too.
Hi people reading my profile, my name is Lisa (obviously but I kinda felt the need to state that again)
I am studying English and primary education at "Freie Universität" in Berlin which is brill.
Now onto things I like and dislike:
I like taking a shower after a night out and letting the hot water kick up the smell of smoke and alcohol, I like how this smells of adventures but I like it even more when those smells disappear in the drain.
I like looking at the clock and seeing magical times such as 11:11 or 5:55 (that's when I'm going to bed really late). I know I'm very easily pleased.
I like going by train, I like looking out of the window while listening to music because that makes me feel like a film star. It also enables me to pretend that I could get up at any station and start a new life. I like sunny days because as clichée as it sounds seeing the sun always makes me feel better.
I like the smell of the sea, books and freshly baked biscuits. I like writing references for others although it always makes it sound as if I'm in love with the person I am writing a reference for.
I don't like the smell of grass because that leads to me sneezing several times and that makes my nose all red and horrible.
"I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art - write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can."
So far I have mainly enjoyed my life as much as I can. I am very aware that I am incredibly blessed for all the nice opportunities and "privileges" I've had. But I have also been terribly lazy and maybe not made the most of everything. Some of my current "goals" include:
Meet more people!
Learn how to cook.
Write something that could be called a book.
Sleep less. Yesterday I had my alarm set at 1.pm which is just disgusting.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Surfing, hosting, meet ups.
I'm also always up for hanging out with people if I'm in Berlin or when on holiday somewhere else.
I have surfed and hosted a little and met up with quite a few people in different cities and of course in Berlin and so far it's all been very lovely.
I love reading, writing, going out, dancing, pretending in my mind that I'm a character in a book, watching people on youtube and travelling.
Music, Movies, and Books
I love reading and I love finding a book that I become hooked on. Then I just stay in bed reading for an entire day/night and become slightly obsessed. Some of my favourite authors are John Irving and Nick Hornby.
Some of my favourite books include:
The fault in our stars by John Green,
the Harry Potter series, The Hunger Games, Looking for Alaska by John Green, Lucas by Kevin Brooks, Just Listen by Sarah Dessen, Out of Breath by Julie Myerson, Isola by Isabel Abedi, Picadilly Circus liegt nicht in Kumla by Hakan Nesser
So you see mainly in the young adult category but I've also read and enjoyed some "classics" for school like E.T.A Hoffmann, Goethe, Schiller, Brecht...
Mainly in the indie/alternative category and HOUSE! deep-house, electronic music all that good stuff!
Bloc Party, Two Door Cinema Club, The Whitest Boy Alive, Erlend Oye, Stars, Fm Belfast, The Wombats, The Kooks, Empire of the Sun, Angus and Julia Stone, Warpaint, Frittenbude, Egotronic, Arctic Monkeys, Bonaparte, Bo Burnham, Phoenix, The Rifles, The Postal Service, The xx, Metronomy, Digitalism, SlagsmÃÂ¥lsklubben, Friska Viljor, Matt and Kim, Cro, Totally enormous extinct dinosaurs, The Killers, Passion Pit...
For going out, I obviously enjoy electronic music/techno/house, deep house etc. At the moment particularly, Henrik Schwarz, Noze, Dixon and Bondax.
Films: Little Miss Sunshine, The King's Speech, 500 days of summer, an Education, Her!...
I watch quite a lot of tv series (more than I should probably but there is some great stuff out there, hah):
Peep show, the inbetweeners, fresh meat, game of thrones, flight of the conchords, new girl, friends, sherlock, doctor who, orphan black, dates...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Lots of things. To hard to choose. I will tell you about it in person.
Hm.. I've slept on a beach in Italy, on Sardinia, to be more precise, right next to the harbour because we had to take the ferry the next morning and even though I woke up every hour because you could hear the ferries hoot all the time, and the mosquitoes were awful, it was also extremely beautiful!
I have travelled in most countries in Europe but never really outside of it.
Update: I've now been to Brazil on my own, but I was never really on my own, and it was amazing.
Update: I have travelled to the US in March/April 2014.
