About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Desperately seeking procrastination outlets.
ABOUT ME
I only respond to inquiries that include the pass phrase I've included in my couch description. Please read my profile and write to tell me why you'd like to spend time with me and why I'd like to spend time with you.
Up until July 2025 when I was laid off, I was technology journalist, writing mostly about cybersecurity. I used to keep bees and am very interested in animal husbandry and organic gardening. My yard is a tangled jungle full of birds, bugs and fruit.
PHILOSOPHY
Research has shown that people with enlarged amygdalas, the fear processing part of the brain, tend to be conservative and lean toward the xenophobic. People who CouchSurf, along with many if not most of us who use Airbnb or other shared-housing models, tend to lean the other way. These are the people I vibe with: I love it that CouchSurfers are open to different ways of living life and are unafraid of meeting anybody and everybody. These are my kind of people.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm a CouchSurfer from both host and guest sides. I started my guest journey with Alec and his yurt in Vermont (I stayed a night when I was up to Goddard College for the MFA commencement) and then Marga in Falmouth, MA, My dear friend Jim, whom I met initially as a guest on my couch, introduced me to Marga on the Cape. This can be a nice community.
I don't host people who are only in it for the free stay. I host those who are interested in actual exchange. That's why I only host travelers who take the time to read my profile and determine that they'd like to spend time with me. I like to show people my beloved town, meet up for coffee or for any kind of adventure.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Mostly I've hosted. As I guest, I've been to the Midwest — amazed how gracious, generous, fun-loving, open-hearted and welcoming the CouchSurfers were. I've met up with CouchSurfers for adventures in Amsterdam.

Survived 60 years (and counting) of Type 1 diabetes.
Helped Habitat for Humanity rebuild in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you what I know about urban organic farming. Can teach you how to get back into your kayak if you fall out. Can teach you how to get all the meat out of a lobster that typically people ignore. Can talk to you about neuroanatomy from an enthusiast's nonprofessional perspective. Can teach you how to treat a diabetic suffering hypoglycemia. Can teach you how to cook for a diabetic or for anybody who's on a low-carb diet.
