About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Co-producing an Irish-American surf documentary: crestmovie.com

ABOUT ME

I'm a shapeshifter.

PHILOSOPHY

Like everyone I'm a neuron in the world-brain. I try to help it think positive thoughts.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I started as a mostly-surfer, now I'm a mostly-hoster.[Note: One way that I *don't* use CS is to penpal. No offense, I just prefer to live away from my computer whenever possible. So please don't write looking just to chat, but certainly DO send a message if you'd like to meet IRL -- and after we meet, we then can be penpals!]

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfing has brought me true soulmates and allowed me to have adventures I otherwise couldn't afford. More importantly, it's shown me such wild generosity in action and in doing so, stoked my own desire to give just for the joy of it. Thank you, CS!

Interests

weaving, neurology, lucid dreaming, tantra, permaculture, literature & linguistics, music (especially folk/gypsy/irish), dance & movement, writing, cooking...

Music, Movies & Books

Writers/thinkers: Alan Watts, Charles Eisenstein, Bill Mollison, Sir Ken Robinson, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, D. H. Lawrence, Kahlil Gibran, Hermann Hesse, Riane Eisler, Pablo Neruda, Laura Berlant, Rumi, Hafiz, Goethe, Jung, Twain...

One Amazing Thing I've Done

One time a mentally disabled woman stopped me on the street and asked me to help her find a homeless shelter. We spent the next three days together schlepping from agency to agency in Boston setting her up with various social service programs. It was totally exhausting and disgustingly complex but definitely 'amazing' -- and I've never had funnier waiting room chit-chat.

Teach, Learn, Share

I give you a poem by Hafiz, translated by Daniel Ladinsky:

IT TRIED TO PREPARE ME

The clear night sky tried to prepare me for
what it knew would someday happen;

it began to show me ever deeper aspects of
its splendor, and then one evening just directly
asked, "Will you be able to withstand your own
magnificence?"

I thought I was just hearing things, until
a spring orchard I was passing my days with

at the height of its glory bust into song,
about our -- every human's -- destiny to burn
with radiance.

Still I felt my ears were playing tricks on me
until the morning came when God tore apart
my chest... needing more room to bloom
inside.

I began to roll through the streets in ecstasy.
Everyone thought I was crazy.

I hope everyone someday knows how blessed
I was. You will.
