ABOUT ME

I'm an adventurous 30-something enviro type from the U.S. I'm currently a grad student, but in the past I've been a wanderer, an entrepreneur, and a researcher for a think tank. I love hiking, food, wine & beer, wandering around strange cities, reading novels in coffeeshops, and live music from jazz to punk.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to couchsurfing, but I'd like to be part of a community that helps strangers become friends and gives a helping hand to fellow travelers on the road.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Many years ago my boyfriend and I spent several months hitchhiking through the American Southwest and, later, through South Dakota. So many people showed us amazing trust and kindness, but my favorite was a housepainter from Tucson who took us home to sleep at his house, eat dinner and watch movies with his family. I was deeply touched by his kindness and the amount of trust he placed in two complete strangers. These days, I use more predictable and reliable modes of transportation, but sometimes I really miss the way that hitchhiking offers you such incredible opportunities to experience the kindness of strangers and to repay that kindness with funny stories, gratitude and trustworthiness.

兴趣

Live music, dancing, hanging out in the woods, all kinds of food, hiking and camping, getting places by boats, busses and trains, meeting new people and finding that they feel like old friends, reading. I'm also a big environmental policy nut but I can keep it under wraps for those who aren't interested in wonky things like climate change policy.

I like lots of stuff but especially classic jazz, latin jazz, old funk and soul, and anything live that's played with reckless abandon. For books I'll read anything I can get my hands on, but I especially like books that are a bit nonsensical - Archie & Mehitabel, Brautigan, Catch-22, stuff like that.

Visited the Medicine Wheel in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming. It's an amazing place that can't be described.
