About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Experiences, happiness and people.

ABOUT ME

Life is good - play with it! Everyone has a story and I love hearing them all. I also truly enjoy sharing life with people: to me that means making connections and watching everyone grow. My favorite people are ones who look at life head-on and balance reality with humor.

My two rules:
1.Let everyone who comes into contact with me today, whether s/he hears of me, thinks of me, or speaks with me, find in that a benefit and a happiness.

2.Honesty and respect.

PHILOSOPHY

Don't be an a-hole. I guess the more fleshed-out version of that would sound something like:
First, know thyself (totally borrowing the genius there). Next, cultivate happiness and share it. The rest comes easily.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I live in an intentional community in Boise, where my two housemates and I host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am still very new to the whole thing, but have loved every single Surfer we've had so far! I'll be surfing soon!

Interests

Anything. Really. I choose to spend my time engaging with the natural world, both on my own and with others; when I'm not hiking or hot springing you can usually find me writing or reading. I'm always trying to learn new things. The subjects which grab my attention most easily are those that deal with human interaction on any level: sociological, psychological, mathematical, physical, existential, etc. I have been known to paint, draw, sculpt, sing, and drum from time to time as well. And I dance a mean hula hoop.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh geez. Uh, anything that gets recommended. My favorite fiction right now is The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera, and nonfiction would have to be The Comedy of Entropy by Patrick O'Neill. Music... I lean toward southern rock and blues. Movies... I don't watch many, but when I do I like to think and/or be surprised; documentaries and witty comedies are good, as are occassional laugh-out-loud slaptsticks.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a night in solitude in the mountains of Idaho, where a huge wildfire had just swept through. In my sleeping bag under the stars, I was surrounded by millions of dead ponderosa trunks, autumn-colored fireweed, and an eerily beautiful silence that only the recently burned forest knows.

A friend gave me tickets to a small-venue concert for a group I hadn't heard of. I went, and one of the acts had the standing-room-only audience absolutely enthralled. We were dancing, we were cheering on the performers like brothers, feeling like we were all making the music together. That much positive energy left me exhausted and giddy. I've seen performances during which the audience has a great time, when the performers have done a very good job, and when the technical execution has been superb - but this was not just a performance, this was an experience!

I learned how to be in love - deep joy in all of life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to talk about interpersonal connection, and have not a little knowledge of psychology, childbirth, neurobiology, anatomy and physiology as they pertain to musculoskeletal maladies as well as massage, gardening, philosophy, basic nutrition, cooking, sewing, quilting, and I'm sure some other things.

What would I love to learn more about? Absolutely, literally, anything.
