About Me

ABOUT ME

It's always hard to explain myself because once the description is written I feel like being defined by these adjectives, and I know that everyone is more than words.

If ever I have to pick, maybe I'd say I'm kind of mercurial. I have strong emotions and sensitive though I don't usually give them out. But there are times I don't care everything, see how hard this is!

Normally I am easy going, and willing to discuss all kinds of topic, especially with people who appreciate foreign cultures. My friends usually say that I'm calm and nice. Not particularly funny clown-like; but more often a fan of sarcasm (don't worry in English I'm much nicer than in Chinese^_< )

A little bit background info: I studied in Foreign Language and Literature in Taiwan, where I was born and brought up. The long title of my department suggest mainly "English" actually. I love literature but I kind of have the amnesia in literature so sometimes it might be hard to discuss it (Sorry!) I do enjoy it though.

Now I'm an exchange student in Paris, and my college here is a Political Sciences college. It's very different from what I studied before, but I simply choose whatever interested me and do what I like in Paris.

I love food and film. They are also the two best things in Paris so I feel very grateful for being here.

PHILOSOPHY

If you have ever felt that you're living as an individual, you would understand how to respect others as such individuals.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Since I live in a colocation dorm, I don't think I can host people that often. (I have other roommates) But if you host me, I can definitely provide my couch for you in Paris through some negotiation with them.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

currently only couchsurfed in Amsterdam and Prague, but still look forward to know more people by this.

Interests

movies, baking desserts, enjoying good food, walking without destination(I really like to walk or bike in a city, I can walk for hours just to get how it feels to be absorbed in a whole new environment).

I like to promenade at night, especially when it's cool with breeze. The favorite thing I like in Paris is to have a bottle of wine or beer along the bank of la Seine at night with friends:)

In Taiwan I love to have some beer in Japanese style bar with my friends. I can talk for hours! I don't think Europe has the same thing, but a nice chat in a bar might be as enjoyable as that if we are good companions for each other.

Like to watch movies alone. It feels like travelling actually.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite singer is a Taiwanese girl called Deserts Xuan. She's not a worldwide-known singer, but I really like her music. I can give you some links:

Most of her songs are written in Chinese, with highly imaginative and poetic languages, which is also the main reason I love her.

Besides that, she is highly devoted to public issues in Taiwan. Often stand up and speak for environmental issues and human rights. She is also highly devoted to the registration of homosexual laws and relative problems. Her songs are not just about love and sex, but about society, self identification.

As for the western music i'm addicted to Of monsters and men in this moment:P
I watch literally all kinds of movies (except for the scary films), so for me it's really difficult to choose a favorite one. Recently watched favorite movies are Sugarman(a dramatic documentary). I like movies reflecting some social issues, but at the same time not without aesthetic techniques, like "Detachment", Alain Renais' old but powerful film "Night and Fog". Well it's really hard to mention some of them because I change my views quite often...

I like to watch TV series too, right now on the Big Bang Theory:P I like Sherlock (the one featuring Cumberbatch), Downtown Abbey, Grey's anatomy, Doctor House too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've performed in Edinburgh military tattoo when I was in high school. It was like a military drill featuring marching band and honor guard. I did the gun tricks part and it was a very unforgettable experience.

Well basically I think the fact that I'm living in Paris is quite amazing haha. If I'm not down or drown in essays and papers generally I think my life is amazing. I was born in such a complicated country with such dramatic history, went to best high school and university, met a group of brilliant friends who always help me understand life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I certainly love Chinese culture (although I insist we are an independent country from China) We can make Chinese and Taiwanese food together.

I love to talk about Chinese words (most of my foreign friends seem to enjoy my explication too. I wouldn't take the credit; it's just...Chinese is really beautiful:)

I would like to learn everything I don't know, so just feel free if you are eager to share your interests.
