About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to become a better actor in community theater!

ABOUT ME

I'm an outgoing, reasonably funny guy who travels a lot for work and play. But I'm also enjoying nesting mode. I love to host, cook, trade travel stories, tell stupid jokes, listen to music, watch offbeat films. My husband and I live in a really cool part of Atlanta. We can't host overnight guests at present, but I enjoy meeting visitors for coffee or a meal and showing them around.

PHILOSOPHY

Hmm... haven't really formulated one, but someone once challenged me to compose a "six-word memoir." My answer was: "I came, I saw... we'll see."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently just meeting people for a meal or such -- can't host overnight. I've hosted more often than I've been hosted, but I've also met CSers in various places for coffee or a meal -- a great way to make new friends.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I first joined CS in around 2009, if I recall correctly. I've belonged to similar hospitality-exchange organizations in the past: Servas and LGHEI, and learned a lot from both travelling and hosting.

Interests

Cities, mountains, cycling, hiking, photography, film, theatre, languages, LGBTQ rights, human rights in general, cooking, reading... Oh, and travel.

Music, Movies, and Books

Non-fiction, history and documentaries because I love learning new things. Wry, witty novelists like Nick Hornby. "New Yorker" addict and news junkie. Movies: Almodovar, Ang Lee, "Office Space," "Harold and Maude," "Casablanca." Mostly like edgy, indie stuff, also a sucker for gay romances and coming-of-age stories ("Maurice," "Beautiful Thing," "Brokeback Mountain.")

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent four months in Haiti after the January 2010 earthquake. It was amazing, certainly not all in positive ways, in the sense that it changed me and opened my eyes in a lot of ways.

Teach, Learn, Share

Lots of insights into developing world issues and humanitarian agencies (including the current U.S. political climate that is having such an impact on their work). Can help you practice French, German, Spanish. If you have kids: I draw cute personalized children's books!

Countries I’ve Visited
