About Me

I am a 21 year old student studying costume design for film and television at UCLA. I am originally from San Francisco.

I am 23 years old and originally from San Francisco. I am currently living in Los Angeles and working as a stitcher at the LA Opera's costume shop and making all kinds of neat costumes. I expend my extra creative energy by doing all kinds of DIY projects around my apartment, making costumes and art for my own enjoyment, and very amateur gardening. I love making things with my hands.

In my free time I like to have my friends and room mates congregate on my sofa for drinks or movies or both. I am also currently working my way through the 'A Feast of Ice and Fire' cookbook.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm still new to couch surfing--I traveled in the UK over a year ago, but it was during peak travel season and I had no luck in finding a host. Since then, I have participated in the couch surfing community in LA by going to a few of the public events and meet ups. I have had two long-term couch surfers in the last year.

But now that I am able to travel again I am hoping that this time I will be able to make a new and enriching connection or two during my wanderings. I will be traveling alone so I would feel incredibly privileged not only to share the experience of a city with one of its locals, but to share the liminal experience of traveling with another interesting human.

Interests

I love watching movies with great costumes, street fashion, finding places with unusual and beautiful architecture and/or awesome interior design, studying linguistics and learning about languages from around the world, sharing good food and tea with people I love.

I’m really good at
-Making costumes
-Wearing costumes
-Drawing people
-Appreciating food
-Remembering inane facts about movies, world history and linguistics
-Forgetting what I was just saying or doing; losing things
-Making the best of any situation

Music, Movies, and Books

I crave any and all forms of fiction, but I especially like sci-fi, low fantasy, and crusty old period stories. But pretty much anything that is well-written or well-produced will grab my attention. Most recently, I read Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. I can also talk for a long time about A Song of Ice and Fire.

I like most music I can get my hands on. The only reason I would not listen to a piece of music is if its melody and/or rhythm only qualify as such in the abstract sense. Some of the artists I have most recently started listening to are Agnes Obel, The Birthday Massacre, Dust Bowl Revival, Fall Out Boy, MS MR, and SQÜRL

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been skinny-dipping in Loch Ness when it was 5 degrees C, but the amazing part is that I did it with equally enthusiastic friends.

What I Can Share with Hosts

- Trading anecdotes about travel and everyday occurrences
- Avid curiosity about history, architecture, art, food and music
- In-depth discourse on fiction, linguistics, and/or the psychology of costuming
- A proxy through which one might see their own home city with fresh eyes
- My favorite teas from home
