My name is Lorenzo, I'm from Parabiago, near Milan, in Italy. I'm 20 and I'm in the second year of my Bachelor in Economic and Social Sciences in Milan. I dream of working in the European Commission. You will find out more about my passions by reading below, but let's anticipate something here. I'm deeply passionate about history, especially military history and the Napoleonic era. Every fifth of may, at 19:49 I have a minute of silence in remembrance of Napoleon's death (I account for the different time zone of Saint Helena island).

I love discussing current and past events of the world (I'm a big fan of politics too), and can sometimes become a bit too much involved in the conversation.

Finally, I love travelling. I live for travel. I dream to visit every country in the world, but I love my Europe and I want to discover every single corner of it (favourite city: Berlin).

As I said, travel is one of the things that keeps me alive. And travelling involves meeting new people. I had never tried sleeping in a stranger's house while wandering around the world before, but I figured, "Why not give it a shot?". When travelling, one must experience everything about the place they're in. I look forward to meeting incredible friends and people to have long and heated exchanges of stories and knowledge.

After all, what I care about the most is discovering the world and the people that inhabit it.

I don't have a specific kind of music I like more. I select the songs I like whenever I hear them. However, I really enjoy discovering music in foreign languages (meaning no Italian or English), especially non-international songs that are not very well known. I'm ready to listen to all the weirdest suggestions you have to propose, but be aware: they must be in your local language! (no, jk, other languages are good)

There are many movies I like, and I generally love watching movies. If I had to pick the best, I would say the following. Poor Things, The Master and Margarita (2024 cinematic adaptation), "Waterloo" from 1970, the Star Wars saga (without the films from 7 to 9, those are an insult), the Pirates of the Caribbean saga (the fifth film could have been better, Johnny was a bit down), Zoolander (1 and 2; every person in the world should watch them), every film by Monty Python (absolute geniouses), and Cars (the first one is great, the second is weird, the third is a disgrace).
If we come to series instead, then I would say Vikings, Game of Thrones (unpopular opinion: I didn't hate the last season) and Peaky Blinders.

My absolutely favourite book is "The World of Yesterday" by Stefan Zweig. I was impressed, relaxed, moved and inspired by this book like nothing else I've ever read. Another book I loved was "The Master and Margherita" by Bulgakov. My favourite non-narrative book (which I'm still reading) is "The Campaigns of Napoleon" by David Chandler.

I walked the last 100km of the Camino Primitivo de Santiago, from Lugo, in 4 days with 3 people from the Balkans that I had met just two days before. We were without phones, with just a 10 ltrs backpack and 40€ in total. We asked for money, food and accomodation to locals and other pilgrims. We made tons of friends along the way and we ourselves became a small family. We enjoyed the kindness of the people of Galicia and of pilgrims from all over the world. We slept under the stars (please if you sleep outside don't choose grass like we did, it's gonna be very wet in the morning). It was amazing.

Ps. I also fell asleep during the speech from the Prime Minister of Luxembourg (I was clearly in his line of sight I'm afraid).

What will I teach my hosts? Well, I always come pretty informed about the places I visit, but I won't have the hybris to lecture a local about his history (you're welcome to challenge me tho). What I can do is talk for hours about Napoleon (if you want to be spared, just tell me) or any other historical topic. I won't restrict myself to just history of course. We can also talk about travel, politics, economics or whatever you want. I just love good conversations.

I look forward to learn how a local lives, to absorb every lesson and story they can give me and of course making new friends.

Apart from beautiful moments and conversations together (I think this topic has already been covered enough), I will share loads of things to do and visit in Milan and Italy as a whole (+ Europe. I have tons of info even about places I've not visited yet). I will probably also leave some echo of my voice talking about Napoleon or WW2 in my host's head, but that's just a collateral effect.
